CPO Delivery Timeline Normal?

Placed order for CPO on 10/10 and have been emailing my DS for weekly updates. Car was in NY/NJ was told initially it was being checked and parts replaced there before being shipped to Tampa, FL. Arrived in Tampa after 3 weeks and now DS states they are waiting on parts for additional repairs to complete the Certification process. I have been able to get emailed responses within a few hours but they are fairly canned responses. The DS states if everything is done this week can possibly get a Saturday delivery or early next week. Thought initially it would be a few week process. Did not realize it would take 5-6 weeks for delivery.

I think Tesla really needs to remove those delivery estimates, or consider doing more of these inspections at acquisition instead of sale and making a more honest estimate.

I could not agree more. A simple progress bar with brief updates would save a lot of back-and-forth via e-mail.

I finally got an official delivery date of November 11th. That puts the delivery at 46 days and 4 days late on their 4 - 6 week estimate. Apparently the car is in the queue to be painted still, but they will have it done by this Friday. I am also picking up the car at the original location (flying down). I guess they would have to add even more time for the delivery had I opted for it.

Hope everyone else has better luck that I did, but at least I have a delivery date now.

A progress bar would be good idea. The first CPO Advisor I talked to was realistic with the delivery time period of 4-6 weeks however when the "Estimated Delivery Window" popped up in MyTelsa I got excited which was quickly quelled with a response from the DS saying the car was not even close to being ready.

If "normal" car dealerships can turn around a car within the same day why does Tesla take weeks into months? I understand there is a Certification process to be completed, shipping of cars (sometimes across the country) and wanting the customer to have the best possible product but their time frames seems excessive. Are the Service Centers overloaded and cant keep up with demand? Only seems like it is going to get worse with the Model 3 deliveries last next year. Hopefully they can keep up.

To be fair to Tesla (and I hope to be right in this regard), this is going to be by far the nicest used car you have ever purchased. The way I think about it, I am buying a "new" car with 30000 miles on it. From what I have gather, my car is getting replacement seats, painted (though I don't know where), likely new tires and more. I don't think you would get this kind of service from your average dealer.

I hope they can pull it together more quickly for you. Just a few days ago they were saying 4 more weeks to get a replacement seat and now it is looking like end of this week. Hopefully the same happens for you :)

Yes I agree that from everything I have heard Tesla goes above and beyond to make these cars as close to new as possible. I am much happier dealing with Tesla as compared to past experiences with dealerships. I have not heard specifics as to what is being corrected on my vehicle. Very exciting and eager for delivery. I am sure that it will be worth the wait!

I would have liked a progress bar, definitely!

Part of the turnaround has to do with parts availability, I think. When you haven't even made 200,000 cars and you keep improving them, sometimes multiple times in a year, it's probably difficult to keep supply chains going, especially on our used cars. And, like @aarossig said, they do go above and beyond what is normal for a used car. They got me my car before fixing the bumper, which I appreciated since it's driveable, and told me that one has already been ordered to install soon.

It really is! I have never gotten such a nice used car ever! They are really attentive during the time of inspection, I never had a dealership go over the car with you (that thoroughly at least) and willing to fix the tiniest thing you could possibly nit pick on. So I just went through the process this Saturday and Christmas came early for me! Boy that car is fun to drive, I just cant go outside at work because there is normally a crowd of people lingering by it waiting to ask questions about it. It is a totally different experience, my lunch went bad because I forgot I had put it in the frunk showing off for someone and didn't look in there until this morning. I thought I was going to have an issue with my trade in because I had put a bunch of additional miles on it and they didn't say a word. Just remember to ask for more swag, my wife and I both got a sweater from my advisor!

I put a deposit down on 11/3/2016. I got an email the following day welcoming me to Tesla with a link to set up my account and Tesla App. On the 7th (Yesterday) I got a call from my DS who told me that my car has already gone through the 200 point inspection and we are now waiting for shipping to be arranged from Vancouver to Toronto. I was told that the entire process will take 3 to 4 weeks. My DS hasn't got confirmation on the shipping yet but says he will have an answer soon. So far the process is going well but only time will tell. I'm really excited and it feels like each day is taking longer to go by with all this anticipation. My DS has already got my insurance information to set up the plates and has sent me a link to do a self inspection of my trade in.

Placed an order on a local CPO Model S on Sept 13th. Finally received the car on Nov 3rd from the Fremont delivery center. The DS was responsive but kept delaying the delivery without any specific reason.
  • The car was not fully detailed. You could see dirt around the interior and grease spots/stains on headliner
  • There was an impact damage to the rear bumper which was obvious and should have been caught during inspection.
During the delivery inspection, check every inch. My DS did not help with finding issues with the car.

Wow, almost 2 months and the car was local as in you were able to test drive it?

The car was local but I was not able to test drive it.

Few more notes:
  • The car only came with one license plate. I requested a front plate and hardware for it but have not heard back from my DS.
  • My car was a demo/executive car. They will make you sign some paperwork to acknowledge this. If your not comfortable with this, I would push back or reject the car. (not sure if thats possible...)

Emailed the DS this morning and vehicle is still not ready for delivery. Informed the car should be ready in the middle of next week with delivery possibly next weekend (6 weeks point). Here's hoping!

Anyone who has completed a transaction when do they typically send you the financial breakdown (down payment, taxes, fees, etc)?

Was this at the Toronto location? Was your car in another city?

Car was in Chicago and I picked up at the Dallas service center. I didn't receive notification that the car had been shipped -- only that it arrived in Dallas and would be ready in about 48 hours. I had to postpone a day since I couldn't get off work in time to pick it up at the first opportunity.

Car had to be moved from Florida to the Mid-Atlantic.

Did receive it - 6 weeks after the order.

They didn't update the delivery date in MyTesla until a very few days before it was delivered. I noticed the update in MyTesla a day before I heard from the delivery specialist.

Just got word today that my car is leaving Vancouver on 11/23/2016 it will make a stop in Calgary to pick up another vehicle then it will get to Toronto 12/01/16. The car was certified in Vancouver but still needs touch up work on the rear bumper which I'm told will be done in Toronto. Hopefully that is done quickly and I can take delivery shortly after it arrives.
