I didn't wrap the U-bolt but stuck about 1" x 3/4" x 3" of foam into the open part of the U-bolt. The idea is to put a little pressure on the seat when snapped into place. You want some fairly stiff foam like polyurethane foam. This was just some packing foam I had laying around. It's enough foam to hold in place when the seat is dropped down, but not so much that the seat doesn't latch. I didn't like the idea of wrapping the U-bolt with tape, figuring it would end up making a gooey mess and would easily wear out if you change the seat position more than a few times.
