Curb Rash MYP 21" Uberturbine (Fixable?)

Here for emotional support because my wife took the MYP to work today and just texted me this photo (which for some reason turned sideways when I uploaded it). Three weeks of ownership before the first curb rash.

Nothing a little touch up paint won’t fix, though.

Yes, it can be fixed. No need to stress, $h!t happens. Look up wheel repair in your area and check reviews.

I know this is probably too far for you, but worth a look. Onsite Wheels, in Garden Grove, CA. 5-star reviews and have experience with Tesla. There's a curbed Uberturbine that was fixed, looks like new.

Good luck!
I made my wife take it to Onsite after curbing them… best wife ever!!!

I curbed my left front wheel about a week after taking delivery of my MYP. Yesterday I curbed the right front wheel dropping my son off at Kumon, so now I have matching curb rashes on my front wheels! Doh! I still have the ghetto touch-up materials from the first rash so I'll just paint it over the next couple of days. I'm not too OCD so it'll be good enough. I just tell myself that these Uberturbines are close to impossible to not curb...😩

My wife went on a Costco run and took the MYP. It came back with a deep curb rash on the right rear wheel.

This one looks pretty deep and not sure if it can be fixable. Looking for recommendations.

Does Tesla sell 21" Uberturbine wheels separately?

Is anyone in the Bay Area looking to sell their Uberturbine as a set (4x wheels + tires) or separate set (Just the rears only)?

Thanks in advance.

😲 Yikes 🤦🏻‍♂️ You can file it some and paint it for now but It can be fixed; Curious, what did your wife say ? 🤔

It works and if done right, you will not notice it unless you go looking for the repair. Zink also sells kits with sandpaper included if you do not have any already.

BUT...

You need to put in the effort to make sure to prep and clean up the wheel first. Depending on the damage, if not too bad, should be able to do 1 wheel in 1-2 hours. This is not going to fill in any gouges that you cannot or do not sand away, so if the damage is bad or you want your perfect wheel back, take it to a specialist service instead.

If you have any rough edges then might need to Dremel it initially to get those sorted. Then use sandpaper starting from 80 up to 200+ grit to smooth it out until you cannot feel any roughness or edges anymore. This part is up to you, judgement call, all depends on the damage done and what you are willing to accept at the end. The paint does a decent job of hiding the damage and blending in, but it can only do so much.

Make sure the surface is clean and dry, I used alcohol pads since I had some here. Then multiple light coats of this touch up, do not try to apply too thick, patience needed here. Give it at least 10 minutes before applying the next coat. The applicator does require some finesse so you may want to practice on a piece of cardboard first, or have a rag handy to wipe it away and try again as you are doing this part. Just remember to apply lightly. Probably take 3-5 coats to get it blended in just right. Once done I would allow an extra couple of hours for the paint to cure before driving and a few days before washing, but that is just me.

I’ve had our MYP for thee months; First moth wife first curb encounter 😬🤦🏻‍♂️ Front wheel.View attachment 821989Oh that hurts.
For this reason first thing I did with our new MYP is put 295’s on the rear and swap the 275’s onto the front rims. No more stretched look and now a bit more rubber protection than oem. As it is the 255/275 combo is not wide enough for the size of rims. As soon as we went 275/295, even they tire shop noticed how much better the fitment was. The oem setup is way too stretched and allows for the rim sticking out.

Goodluck on repairs. Make sure they have a proper paint code or colour match!

Any rubbing issue when turning? Did that impact any speedometer calibration issue?

No sir. Zero rubbing or calibration issue.
The interesting thing is that the diameter of the 255 to 275’s is .5” variance front to back and the diff of the 275 to 295 is the exact same .5” variance. So the sensor it’s don’t see any change in % variance front to back.

From the aspect of Speedometer reading yes there would a slight variation in real vs rotational speed. Too slight to notice.
