Does anybody know at what point in a custom build does the VIN get assigned to you? I ordered May 6 and got my VIN last night. But does this mean the car is already built and has now been assigned to me, or does this VIN association happen when they start to build the car?

I'm pretty sure VIN is assigned when the car is fully built. My SA told me I'm soft matched with a VIN but not yet assigned because they have to make sure everything is okay with the car.
Same 718,xxx. I'm trying to figure out if the car was made after the switch to the wireless charges. Have you heard about delivery yet? I'm still waiting on that part...
What specs did you order? No VIN for me yet, I ordered a White Ext, Black Int, 18” Aero Wheels SR+.
Mine is the same. White/Black SR+ with Aeros. Have you checked the source code? Mine is only in the source code right now
No delivery dates yet. My SA said delivery should be 1-2 weeks after VIN is assigned but I will have to talk to them again. I don't think ours are the newly built ones because newer VINs are 730,xxx.. so probably won't have wireless charger and USB C

I see a few people in this thread are picking up in Vancouver. I picked up my Model 3 on Saturday (VIN 716118, manufacture date of 6/20, no USB-C), and they do have a new pick up facility on Great Northern Way. My Delivery Specialist said Saturday was their first day open. Almost all the deliveries except mine and a few X's were White SR+ with Aero's.
I wonder if the VIN delays have something to do with pickups in the Vancouver area, and maybe now they will be sped up? There were about 14 of us that I counted on Saturday afternoon, so I think they can get more output than the Powell location.
I think I know what you are talking about as I have driven by and seen it as a storage lot for new vehicles. Glad to know they are making more of that space and using it for deliveries too!
Yep, checked the source code and nothing there yet. This thread has turned in to a Western Canada waiting-room lol!
I asked my SA if he was able to tell me when my car was built. He sent me this:

So I assume that means I will have the wireless charger. That also makes me think they that either my car was built for me, then they added the VIN, or when that car was done they just added me to the VIN right away. Also, I love that my car has a birthday!!

My SA is saying Model 3s delivered in June/July will not have wireless chargers/USB C which is different to what others' SAs were saying on this forum hmmmmI asked my SA if he was able to tell me when my car was built. He sent me this:

I checked the source code, and I got my VIN as well, strangely almost immediately after I contacted my SA to ask about delivery times and having him say he has no update for me. VIN is 734xxx, White exterior and White interior SR +, no FSD, aero wheels.
