Custom orders? Seat options, non leather sport seats

We looked at a P85D on a test drive last week. I heard Tesla offered non-leather interiors, but apparently only on the non-sport bolstered seats...which isn't what we test drove.

I heard Tesla offers a non-leather steering wheel option when you place an order too, but it doesn't show that online.

We're vegan and although we still have cars with leather seats from years ago, we wouldn't but a new car, one that costs 6 figures, and have to pay additional for leather options.

Other than that, i was impressed with the test drive, the car handles, accelerates, brakes and rides better than i expected.

What you see in the design studio is what you get. There aren't any hidden, or otherwise, options.

Outside of that, I'll leave my personal opinion out of this...

That's not necessarily true. I've heard of people getting things changed. Alcantra on the dash/no-alcantra on the dash for example. I think I've heard of other things too.

I'd contact Tesla and see what they can do. I've never heard of anyone getting next-gen non-leather seats, but it's worth a try.

You know, there are some really wonderful auto upholstery shops on the east coast that can wrap your Next Gen seats in any fabric you can imagine.
Check with any car guys for a reputable shop or craftsman in your area.
Here in CT there are perhaps 3 or 4 auto interior guys who do not even advertise and have excellent reputations amongst the auto restorers.
So just don't limit yourself to fingers walking in the Yellow Pages... if you jawbone it up at a few car shows, you may find the real artists in your area.

That's not really true. Tesla has offered a hidden "Vegan" Model S option for some time now (since before I got mine in 2013), but the OP is right, you can't order it directly from the website. According to this, they're still doing it as recently as this past June: Tesla's vegan interior options are ahead of many competitors - Business Insider

The problem, though, is that they haven't added textile as an option for the next-gen seats. So you have to get the old seats to avoid leather. Hopefully the new seats get textile eventually, but it's not looking like Tesla is in any rush to do so.

Hummm... if this is true... Why did Elon not speak of this at the most current stockholder's meeting when asked the question about Vegan interiors? You would think someone would have whispered this fact into his earbud?? Maybe it is a very very well kept secret I suppose.

To date, and it's quite possible I missed it or didn't notice it, Tesla has been very limited in anything custom unless you had a mountain of cash and\or directly involved with Elon. I'd say that spending valuable R&D on a vegan interior is a complete waist of cash and resources for Tesla in it's current state considering the minuscule customer base that would benefit from such an option.

You mean the shareholder meeting discussed in the linked article? The one where Elon said he would look into it and then subsequently Tesla responded to Business Insider that they do in fact have such an option for the rare customer that requests it? Textile seats + the non-leather wheel option results in a Model S containing no animal products, and has for years.

It probably is a pretty well-kept secret. I doubt they've made very many of them.

This was quoted by Bloomberg after the 2015 shareholder meeting.

"Tesla does offer a vegan option to customers who express that this is a priority for them," Khobi Brooklyn, a company spokeswoman, said in an e-mail to Bloomberg News. "If they want no leather in their car, the customer would choose the Multi-Pattern black seats which have a synthetic leather trim and then custom-order a vegan steering wheel."

Hello.

I am picking up the first "vegan" UK car in about 3 weeks (I hope...considering I ordered in Jan).

Best approach is obviously order the textile seats, which look half leather, but are actually synthetic. Then as soon as you have ordered and if your sales contact cannot help get your delivery specialist to confirm it is OK to go full vegan with synthetic leather everywhere. Again, hopefully before the initial 2 weeks is up.

But.. but.. if you have a vegan car, how can you ever meat someone? :)
