When trying to justify purchase the 500 mile range cybertruck it would be helpful to know if the 500 mile version is more efficient than the 300 mile version. Will I be saving more money in the long run by purchasing the 500 mile range or are the batteries equally efficient?

This doesn't have to do with battery efficiency, it's about the motors. The tri-motor (the 500 mile variant) will be less efficient than the dual motor (300 mile variant) because of the higher performance of the motors. It's true that the higher number of motors will allow for more efficient power distribution (as we observe in the model S/X D models), but this is outweighed by the increased performance of the tri-motor, which will decrease efficiency.

Take the model S for example. The long range and performance versions have identical batteries, but the performance model is less efficient due to its more powerful rear motor.

A lot positive with battery tech will happen in the two years before the CyberTruck will be ready for mass consumption. Efficiency in Tesla batteries come from a combination of new battery technology AND software upgrades (as we can see with OTA improvements this year). Just think what your brand new cellfone you purchased this year will be like in 2021/22 when the new one comes out! That's what we are looking at with the CyberTruck.

What we saw on the stage and on the road this week is going to be passé in 2021 (not so much the body/style, but the software technology).

Today's article on Electrek about Cybertruck being classified as Medium Duty truck is very interesting. Seems like the base level truck will weigh about 5000lbs (500 lighter than Model X!!) and tri-motor/ER will be about 6500lbs. Based on this and aero of 0.3c, this thing is going to be about as efficient as Model X, unloaded, about 330 wh/mi.
