To find the additional consumption with a roof box , I did a comparison test of 296km , a roundtrip from my home to a nearby SUC without and with Whispbar + roof box model Norauto CXAir 4500 ( Europe - Pininfarina Design - http://www.pininfarina.com/…/norauto_cx_…/norauto_cx_air.htm )
Here are the results :
Without the roof box :
Go @ 125km / h : 28.3 kWh - 190 Wh / km Log 1&2 ( little stop )
Back @ 130km / h : 33 kWh - 224 Wh / km Log 3
Total roundtrip : 61.3 kWh and 207Wh / km
With the roof box :
Go @ 125km / h in 32.9 kwh - 223Wh / km , up 16.25 %
Back @ 130km / h in 37.9 kwh- 257Wh / km , up 14.85 %
Total roundtrip : 70.8 kWh and 240Wh / km , up 15.5 %
at 125-130 km / h , rely on additional consumption of 15% with this type of roof box
