4 wheel steering!
Such a short life....:crying:
Wonder if Tesla will be buying Roadsters any more? With the car out of production in 60 days, and warranties on 1.5s expiring soon, the cat's out of the bag (box) so to speak.
Well that video made me sick .... like Night of the Living Dead for a 2.5!!!
It looks repairable to me! Might need to have the motor and battery removed for frame straightening, probably needs a new gearbox, left axle, left rear suspension, a new rim, new front bumper... I don't think it's totalled though.
Anyone know what happened?
Talked to the auction company today. The frame is bent up too. I figured as much just looking at the trunk lid and how it lines up hard left up by the rear glass. No pics other than what they have posted (none of the underside.) Dismantler/dealer only auction; no private party bids. No auction date set; they say it may even be a few months! I think they're trying to drum up some business by advertising it so early on (on their homepage no less!) R.I.P. 1207!
Well I hope they are keeping it plugged in since the drivetrain (including the batteries) probably holds the highest value salvageable parts. With frame damage, though, the coolant lines might be screwed up.
I keep wondering about the Roadster at the Cosmopolitan on top of the slot machines in Las Vegas. Does someone plug that one in to maintain the pack?
Wasn't plugged in everytime I have been there....
That being said, I bet thet they top the charge off every now and then.
No, the battery in the 1207 wreck has been disconnected in the car according to the auction company. They said they contacted tesla directly when they received the car, and were advised to disconnect it all together, considering it's condition
Hmm... guess that means the battery pack is a loss.
Disconnected cells can hold a charge for a very long time, assuming no power was being drawn from them.
I talked with Tesla Menlo Park regarding this 1207 car today. Apparently, the car must have been towed there from the accident, as they saw it in this condition and are familiar with it (two months ago.) They said it needs a whole new chassis tub ($27K w/o labor) along with numerous other parts, and everything would have to be transferred over to the new tub. They said they wouldn't even touch it! And they don't even know about the battery pack, electronics, gearbox, motor, etc. Way too much money must be invested to make it road worthy, exceeding it's worth. Hence, the salvage status from the insurance company. I had to check on it because the pics and video didn't look that bad, but any potential bidders be forewarned! What a shame! PASS......
Thanks for the info. Maybe some parts of 1207 will make it onto other roadsters and them keep going.

not to stray too far off topic, but i spoke with a tesla employee who said he recently picked up a one of the first roadsters in napa and the car had never been plugged in (or driven.) battery was (predictably) totally dead.
