So, I've had my dash cam in my 12v plug... since I got it.

Then I thought I'd get a USB cable instead, because it's smaller.

Now I'm thinking I'd like to run the camera 24x7 off the car.

However, my 2013 doesn't have that 'hot' tap that the newer ones do..

who here has found 12v that's near the spot of the dash cam?

Are those little lights near the rearview hot all the time?

I could tap one of those by pulling that cover up front? How does that remove?

    thanks everyone!

I would use the "unused" OBD II port on the underside of the dash above the dead pedal. Amazon has many OBD II to USB cables.

I've seen those, I'd rather just wire it and have it unseen...

I have a right angle one and you cannot see it or the wire at all.

So does the wire just go right behind the panel and up to the cam?

Yep. I removed the screw forward of the port to make it easier to get the wire to the door jam area and from there it just a matter of tucking the cord around trim panels.

What was 'wrong' about them? Mini vs. Micro USB?

I ordered a Mini and I kept getting a micro. It was not a Amazon problem, they are packaged incorrectly.

I just ordered a mini off eBay... now we wait a month, and hope a micro doesn't arrive...
