Decreased acceleration.

Hi

Tesla Model S 75D 2017 130000 km.

I get a fault when acceleration in the high torque.
The car then limit the kW. Typically to 200 kW. If I then push the accelerator again it get limited again maybe to 180 kW. And so on.

In service mode it log the fault :
DI w166 _hvilOutOfBounds

It looks like it's the small DU.

Has anyone experienced this fault code?

There is guarantee on the DU and battery.

I now how a hvil circuit works.

Sorry for the bad English..

Your battery is probably cold and portions are not active to protect the battery. The dotted line and the yellow triangle indicate portions of the battery energy are not available until the battery can recover. The triangle temporarily appears whenever there is a change to the power + or -, and the graph shows the unavailable area. If you look at the battery in the "Charging" menu, you will have more information. This works the same way as the regenerative braking in cold weather. It is not as efficient in cold weather, so it is "limiting" the braking or the power.

From @blodg1 "Internal documents show this for DI_w166_hvilOutOfBounds:
"The drive inverter (DI) has detected that the high voltage interlock loop (HVIL) voltage is outside of the specified range. This alert only applies to small drive units.
This alert is set if HVIL voltage is +/-0.3 volts or +/- 1.5ma the nominal value. This alert can be falsely triggered when the DI is outputting higher torque. This alert alone is not enough to identify an HVIL issue."

You can safely ignore it."

You probably do not have summer driving experience, if the ambient temperature is above certain value (believe it’s 18°C) you will not have this indication. That’s why it’s worth to heat up the cabin/battery during cold period prior your drive. This cabin heating will also prevent any possible damages to the door/window opening if outside temperature is below freezing.

I am a newbie to the model s. But have had few model 3's. So iam not totally new to EV's😊

When it's capable to fully regenerate the kinetic energy from the brakes. And it's been driven for a while. It still does it.

I commute about 60 km to work. And with a heavy foot it still does it at the end of the trip.

If I continue to accelerate the power gets more reduced. I did maybe 5 times. Then it was reduced to a output of 100kW

Found this for the error code:

"The drive inverter (DI) has detected that the high voltage interlock loop (HVIL) voltage is outside of the specified range. This alert only applies to small drive units.
This alert is set if HVIL voltage is +/-0.3 volts or +/- 1.5ma the nominal value. This alert can be falsely triggered when the DI is outputting higher torque. This alert alone is not enough to identify an HVIL issue."

Doesn't sound temperature related to me, though you can be sure by using a scanner and checking the pack temperature.
