Deep scratch/paint job repair advice needed after human forgot how to reverse.

Today my soon to be ex-wife forgot how to reverse our 4-month-old Tesla Model 3 out the driveway.
I have a 36-second video showing what happened and the photo of the damage below.

My question for the forum is how much can I expect to pay to have this damage repaired and if anyone has any recommendations for repair paint shops in Surrey/Sussex?

Kind regards,

Mike

Quality meme work there.

That damn mini wall came out of nowhere.

I wouldn't want to guess about the cost, maybe worth giving your local ChipsAway a call to see if they would take it on and estimated costs from them.

My thoughts and prayers are with you :(
Damn mini wall indeed! It is so odd though why it doesn't jump out at me! 🤔
My wife comes in afterwards and says "I told you to not park so close to the step". Like it is my fault for parking a foot and a half away.

Cool, thanks, I will check them out.

Thinking about it, it might be a bodyshop job. Red is a multi-coat colour as you know, so a smart repair could end up looking funny at certain angles and/or in certain sunlight conditions, etc.

Not what you want to hear, but perhaps it needs someone to basically spray that side of the bumper and blend it in. With it being so new at least there isn't the usual blending issues to worry about (I'm not a painter though).

if you do speak to ChipsAway or whatever make sure you get good assurance that it will match.

EDIT: Chips Away for minor repair on multicoat red? - this thread suggests ChipsAway might do a decent enough job.

We're very sorry - There is currently no ChipsAway specialist covering your area. :(

Both text and website say the above.

Ouch. The video had me laughing, but still, ouch.

Hope you get it sorted pretty cheaply mate.
Ouch indeed. The meme free video is worse. Adding the gifs made it slightly better, but maybe after a few more beers, I'll feel a lot better. Told the wife she is cooking a steak and fries and then sleeping in the garage this weekend 🤣

A further update - we called Tesla at the Gatwick branch, and they gave us two companies that do body/paintwork for Tesla cars. One was Apollo (in Horsham) and the other was Finesse (in Dorking). Apollo quote £1000 based on the photo we sent them. Their labour alone was close to £800. Seemed a little steep! Finesse wanted us to bring in the vehicle so they could look at it first hand.

We took the car to them this morning, bright and early for an assessment and judging by their yard (full of BMW, Audi, Tesla, Mercedes, Mini, first impressions were it will be expensive), but after the friendly gentleman inspected the tear and explained what they would do and said, £450 with a courtesy car thrown in for a couple of days, I felt a lot better. I asked them how they would blend the colour and he explained how so hey! what do I know? Fortunately where that gash is low down and it's quite a small area they would have to match up. He said we shouldn't worry about anything because they had Tesla qualified staff.

Everything from that point onwards was handled very professionally and efficiently, even the young lady inspecting the car, putting it into Service mode (which I didn't even know we had) and the friendly staff inside, so far so good.

Driving home in the 2021 Vauxhall courtesy car, I really did miss the one pedal driving and regen braking. As for that terrible petrol engine noise on acceleration, and the horrible dash with all the buttons, it is quite incredible how distracting all the knobs and buttons can be.

Glad it turned out not toooo bad. it doesn’t matter how small or large the damage is. It still turns your stomach.

Not bad. Still, £450 is still painful, but a lot better than ~£1000!

The story gets better. They did a fantastic job, it looks brand new again. :) Also when they called this morning they said the price was £350 and it was ready to collect. And they cleaned it inside and out! I am very impressed with Finesse accident Repair Centre in Dorking.

Also thank you for all the suggestions made by various people here and who DM. I'll keep them in mind for the next time. ;)

Had to chuckle though, the wife suggested last night we put a rubber strip on the step, which makes me think she wants to do this again. I told her there won't be the next time.

Have to ask... was she going to be an "ex-wife" before the incident?
Funny video though! Repair job looks very good!
