Hi all,
I'm new to this forum as I have just purchased a new Tesla S 85D last week. I'm scheduled to take delivery on the vehicle at this end of September 2015. Tesla Motor Company does not offer financing and/or leasing to Delaware residence as we have to go though 3rd party companies recommended by Tesla. These companies have been great with the exception of being able to register the car in Delaware. I have to physically (manually) take my temporary registration with the Bill of Sale to DMV and apply for Tags, Title and registration. Those fees including the 3.75% doc fee will also be due at that time and cannot be added post acquisition of the car to my financing. Is there anything that I'm missing here? Any help from Delaware residents to navigate through this process to expedite the procedure and make it less painful would be appreciated.

I live in VA and they also do not finance here. However, through the Tesla website I was directed to Alliant Credit Union in Chicago and they had by far the best rates and were an absolute joy to do business with. It was very, very easy to get get the loan and get it all situated. Completely painless. Good luck!

Had a similar issue here in TN, in May. Simple fact of the matter was my NC-based delivery specialist had never delivered one to TN before, didn't know how to register it, so it was easier for him to send me the same notice than to do it. Most people don't mind, but I sure did. Started a thread here, fired off an angry email, cc'd VP of Sales, had a flurry of responses including about 4 from sr and jr VPs at Tesla. One of them even sent me his home phone number, asked my to call him at home that night. I didn't, but the next day he contacted me to tell me that in fact they could register for me, but it would take 6 weeks. He acknowledged they should have done so at least 2 weeks prior (as the temp NC registration they were providing was good for 4 weeks) but hadn't. At this point they could, but I would have a bit of a problem for a couple of weeks, or I could accept their apology and go register it myself. 4 weeks later (I was busy) I registered it myself.

If you'd like, PM me and I could forward you the appropriate person's email (at least, for me - maybe for you).

Don't know if the financing part changes this.

bmanke,
Alliant is who I'm working with. They are awesome! I actually am paying less to purchase than I would to lease with more equity in the car at the end of 48 months. With no limits on mileage, no bogus lease fees, and getting the benefit of the personal tax credit, it was a no brainer. That part has been surprisingly pleasant, it is the registration that I'm not looking forward to.

CSFTN,
Looks like it is going to be easier to just register the vehicle myself. Amazing that a car company that is selling cars for $100K + is not capable of registering car for you as to roll taxes, tags and registration into financing and decrease hassle of spending hours at DMV. Fortunately, I'm too excited to get my Tesla S that I'm willing to not let it deter from my experience.

In PA I titled my car, paid the taxes, and got a new registration plate in less than an hour at a AAA office. They are authorized to print all of the documents so there was no waiting for anything to come in the mail from Harrisburg.

Home equity line of credit. Better rates and tax deductible. To boot... I have the assets in the market earning dividends and capital gains. OPM baby... Other peoples money!
