Here's how my delivery went down yesterday.

Before delivery:

The whole day before I cringed every time the phone rang, hoping it wasn't a last minute delivery cancellation. My brain was in a battle with itself; one half was giddy with excitement to finally be getting the car I had wanted for about 10 years, and the other half trying to temper that excitement in case I might have to reject the car. My wife and I even had a plan, I was going to be "good cop", she was going to be the "bad cop" with the delivery checklist and flashlight.

Delivery:

We arrived about 20 minutes early, grabbed a coffee and water, and sat down. A person came out an got us started with the paperwork, which took about 3 minutes. I signed everything except the delivery acceptance, as I wanted to inspect the car first, and the rep was totally fine with that.

The delivery specialist came out early and we finally saw the car. It was stunning. The car was IMMACULATE. The detail team had done a fantastic job. There was not one speck of dirt anywhere, inside or out. Exactly how you hope a new car would be delivered.

The interior was perfect. Panel gaps - excellent. Undercarriage - perfect.

We found a few small things on the exterior. There were paint swirls on the bumper. They brought out a detailer and he buffed them out in about 10 minutes. There was a small ding or raised area on the rear panel, so small I could barely see it. They offered to try to work on that as well, but I let it go. As we were about to leave, we saw a chip on the bottom of the bumper. The DS noted it and is going to follow up with me about taking it to the body shop for repair. Honestly, I don't even know if I will do that, it was very small. No one would ever see these things unless pointed out to them. Overall, I would rate the condition at 99.8%

The car was delivered with 6 miles, VIN 57,xxx, built 7/31/2018

Oddities:

The charge port kept popping open by itself throughout the delivery. The DS checked with the guys in the back, they thought it might be due to all the chargers in the building triggering it. When I got away from the building it stopped, although it did pop open one more time at home!

When I got home I noticed that the window sticker did not have EAP listed and had therefore the price was incorrect. Even though it was correct on all the paperwork and we do have EAP on the car.

Final thoughts:

The inspection/orientation was over an hour long. We never felt rushed at all. The delivery specialist was great about noting any concerns, no matter how small. We even did a test drive with him, before taking final delivery. These guys and gals are on our side and want to deliver a great car and experience.

Don't be afraid of the regular black color. Yes, it's probably going to be a bitch to maintain but it looks incredible.

If you are on the fence at about ordering, get this car as soon as you can. I was very firmly in the camp of waiting for the short range battery, and being worried about the build quality of early VINs, but I am so glad I pulled the trigger. Elon's team is putting out a super high quality product right now.
