Delivery checklist - how long did you spend and was the delivery specialist waiting?

I didn’t use any delivery checklist when I took delivery of either of my Tesla’s. Just like when I’ve taken delivery of any car throughout my life, I do a general look-over. Is it only within the Tesla community that this concept of needing a checklist has developed? What detailed item has someone found during the delivery that they only remembered to check because they had a checklist? And was it then something that made you refuse delivery of the car, or was it something that could get resolved later anyway? You don’t even get to test drive it, which is when I think you would most likely discover something. My Service Center has been really good about addressing nits post-delivery. You’ve got 4 years of warranty ahead of you.

We spent at least an hour. We found something (pen mark on the seat, dirt in back, etc and they fixed them right then). Only after they fixed them did we sign off. The delivery specialist we originally had wandered off and another one finished up. This was at the Fremont Delivery Center in May 2018.

The model X had a lot of issues early on and many vehicles were being delivered in terrible condition. A checklist was definitely warranted at the time. The same thing happened with the Model 3 and Model Y, though not as bad as the model X since they are simpler designs. I think nowadays the build quality is much better though some issues still slip through from time to time.

Ah, perfect. I shall ask him/her that I will need time to do the check.

IMHO, as minor as those may seem, it is unacceptable given the car cost so much money. I hope Tesla does a better job nowadays.

They cleaned them up so I was OK with it. Remember that no car is not perfect and it is legal for dealers to fix damage and sell them as new.
See, our brand new car might not be completely new after all

At least with Tesla, and the delivery center being 1 mile from the factory, I could see any damage and decide if I wanted the car. Having bought over 20 new cars I have seen some really bad ones from Ford, BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes.

Because of Covid, in PA or NJ, the specialist or anyone are not waiting for you or anyone. You can take as long as you want. When you are done, you call them.

Good point about Covid. When we got our M3 in December at the local SC they pretty just walked away and let us check it out for 30 minutes. I bet nowadays they would probably be even more hands off with the "touchless" delivery.

I saw the delivery checklist and it's quite comprehensive. I will certainly follow that checklist, but this looks like it'll take quite a while.

How long did it take you? And was the delivery specialist waiting in the entire time?
Pre-Covid, I simply showed up 45-60’ ahead of my appointment and they pointed me to my car. The appointment time is when I signed the paperwork once all my concerns were noted.
