Delivery Day Trade In Process

i have been reading threads, but still can’t find my answer. I am planning to trade in my car for my new Model 3. What’s the actual process when I go for delivery? Do you have to wait around for another inspection of your trade? Other than giving them the keys to the trade is there anything else I need to do?

My delivery is the 25th, but still don’t have an IDA to ask these questions.

AFAIK, Tesla uses a third party for the trade-ins. They are the ones that will be contacting you and arranging transfer of the car. My guess is that it isn't even done at the Tesla dealer.

When I got my Model-X 2 years ago, they sent a 3rd party appraiser over to my office to look at the car I traded-in for MX.

But the process seems changed now because of the volumes they have to deal with for Model 3. I asked the guy at the local Tesla SC about why I haven't received any info on the trade-in appraisal, he said just brining in the car over on the delivery and they will do everything on the spot. My delivery is set for this Wed.

That doesn't seem to match previous reports.

Tesla typically sells the car to auction, but generally it's taken to the SC, or in the case of home deliveries, the person doing the delivery either drives it back (when the home delivery is from an SC in close proximity) or loads it on the trailer the m3 was delivered on (in the case of no close SC and trailered to end destination.

I just did a trade in 2 weeks ago today. I traded a 2008 MB e350. I got their offer a couple of weeks before online and accepted it online. On delivery day we drove the MB to the delivery appointment. The delivery specialist went out to the car and verified the mileage. That’s it! I expected an inspection but there wasn’t one. I did the paperwork and drove away in the new Model 3.

My experience back in April was very painless. I checked in at the front desk, and they found my appointment. The lady at the front desk noticed I had a trade-in and asked for the keys, registration and title. After handing those over, she went to the car and confirmed the odometer numbers to write on the title transfer. When I was finalizing the rest of the paperwork, the title transfer was included in that stack for me to sign.

There was no scrutiny over the condition of the vehicle— everything prior to the trade-in was done online and Tesla didn’t appear to do any additional inspections.

This was exactly it. I just drove my old Tahoe to the service/delivery center. I started to look at new model 3, a Tesla rep came up and asked for keys for my old trade incro confirm mileage. That was it other than hand him the title and sign it over.

My IDA has been unable to even get me an offer on my trade though they have had all the information for 2 weeks -- the trade in department is backed up I'm told. I'm supposed to take delivery next week, getting a little concerned at this point.

Thanks for the info team. I saw all of the older posts about trade in, and separate appointments, etc. Its good to hear that now its streamlined. I have a solid offer from Vroom on my i3, and I want to be sure that I don't miss out. Still waiting on my figures from an IDA...

Same here. I received a trade-in offer a week ago, which was slightly higher than CarMax. With the reduction in sales tax it's even better. The trade-in process so far was a simple as answering a few questions on my iPhone and taken photos of the car from each side as well a the dashboard. My M3 delivery is scheduled for next Tuesday. I am expected to bring the trade-in car within a 1,000 mile range of the original trade-in appraisal submission.

I submitted my trade-in info a week ago but still haven't heard anything. My delivery is set for 9/27 (home delivery), so I still have a bit of time, but starting to get nervous. I'd like to know the value so I can look at selling it somewhere else if it's too low.
I am picking up my AWD M3 on Wed (9/19) and I still haven’t got a price for my trade-in. I submitted info of the trade-in car couple of weeks ago.

But I did take it to CarMax to get a buyout price from them.
