Delivery in Fremont vs somewhere else?

Is there any benefit in taking delivery in Fremont?

I was going to take delivery in Sunnyvale but don't want to miss out on anything if Fremont is better (factory tour?)

As you pointed out, factory tour on a delivery day is a convenience because you don't have to come back in at a later day for it.

Also, your car spends less time in transportation so it may get a less chance of rock chips, dust, accidents...

Mine is a demo / loaner so it would be transported anyway to either Fremont or Sunnyvale. I don't know exactly where the car is now but was told that it's in northern California.

Do I need to schedule the factory tour or will it be automatically scheduled for when I take delivery?

Do the Fremont pickup— they have a brand new pickup location that is quite nice. They also have a fantastic espresso bar. Most importantly, they also have the ability to resolve minor issues there. The location is about 5min from the factory.

The Freemont Factory tour needs to be pre-arranged and usually is 2-4 weeks out. Your delivery specialist can provide you with the email address for the Tour Program Coordinator. When you email them— include your VIN number. They host factory tours for Tesla owners Monday-Friday at 10am, 11am, 3pm, and 4pm, excluding major holidays. Tours last approximately 60 minutes. You must be present and may bring up to 3 guests.

Have fun! And congratulations on the new car!

Ok cool. Fremont it is.

If I take delivery in Seattle it's an extra $1000. I actually work in Sunnyvale so I'll pick it up in northern California and drive it home to Seattle on a weekend.
Just curious -- how is it $1000 cheaper to take delivery in California? You will pay sales tax upon delivery in CA of 9+%. It would be 6.5% in WA. You would have to pay the $2000 delivery fee to take delivery in WA, which offsets much of that difference. If you got a really low price on the car, I can see it coming out reasonably close to a wash, but I don't see a way for it to be less expensive to pick it up in California.

Sales tax is based on where you register the vehicle, not where you take delivery.

I live in New Jersey but would like to take delivery on the Left Coast and drive home.
My understanding is that if I pick the car up in California, regardless of where I title and register it, I have to pay California sales tax, and I do NOT get credit for that tax in my home state.

Has anyone who does not live in California made a new-car purchase and picked it up in California (presumably Freemont)?

Thanks.

Sales tax is destionation base for all states except for vehicle purchase. So, it depends on where your home is located.
