Delivery Time for Inventory Vehicle

I have had 2 inventory buys. #1 was a Model S that was in Rockville, MD. I am in Raleigh, NC. Started transaction in mid-December and needed to take delivery before 12.31.16 for tax credit. I flew to BWI and picked up the car on 12/23 and drove home in rain and Christmas traffic - not fun but I had my Tesla!

#2 is my current Model X that I found in Austin, TX in late June, just a couple of days after inventory X was available, I was told. Model X new delivery for late June purchase was estimated late September. The inventory car lacked only the 72 amp charger that I can add later. Sales told me 2 weeks...3 at the outside! On day 7 my DS sent email that he had requested the car be moved from Austin to Raleigh. Car arrived on July 30 and I picked it up on August 1.

The main delay for me was the truck route from Austin to Raleigh is not a direct run. That meant that the truck had several other vehicles to deliver to who knows where as it meandered my way!

Rest assured that when your Tesla arrives you will have completely forgotten all of the frustration of waiting for delivery!

Interesting. I saw a new inventory previous to the one I did end up buying in Bay area & Tesla Rep said it was not transferable to Phoenix & could not be picked up direct. Also, after ordering, the DS rep told me I could not pick up current Tesla in Colorado; it had to be shipped to Phoenix. So...maybe things have changed in that regard since you bought yours.

Oh well, I can only lament the wait now and, as you said, be happy when I get behind the wheel (assuming it doesn't require body shop work!).

So just talked with a Tesla rep in Denver (where my car currently is) this morning after being quoted 3-5 weeks again yesterday from my Tesla rep in Phoenix (it was also 3-5 weeks last week...interesting!) and hesaid it is still there getting "worked on". However, he seemed very optimistic that I would receive my car by end of September, if not sooner. So that would put it in the 3-5 week timeframe I was originally quoted.

And I got to thinking...I wonder if they need to close the sale prior to Quarter end? Working for a Fortune 500 company, I know that big pushes are made at the end of Quarters to boost revenue and help meet projections. Just a theory though.

Either way, I'll update again if/when I get a solid delivery date and (even better!) am sitting behind the wheel!

I was quoted 3-4 weeks for delivery of my inventory X from Denver to Atlanta, and it came in a little over a week. I was shocked, but completely thrilled! I hadn't received any communication from Tesla until my DS called and said the car was here and wanted to schedule pickup. Just depends on the luck of the draw as to when your vehicle is loaded onto the truck. From my understanding, if the truck is almost full, your vehicle will be in transit quicker, but if they have to wait for other vehicles to fill the truck, it might sit there for a while.

Just keep in mind, it's COMPLETELY worth the wait!

Reviving an old thread...

Has anyone had any luck getting any sort of compensation or *anything* for the long delays after being given the standard 2-week-timeframe line?

I'm now in this same boat and very displeased at how they still can't get a handle on the timelines yet list two weeks online when you place the deposit. My delivery specialist has been pretty useless thus far and My owner advisor hasn't been any better at keeping me posted...

This is standard. My inventory vehicle took nearly 3 months to get delivered. I got diddly squat as compensation. Plus not only I paid the deposit, I actually wrote a check for the entire amount.

Just wondering the experience others have had with the timing of delivery for an inventory vehicle. I was originally told 2 weeks - so I plopped down my $2500. Got an email a few days after deposit from the individual coordinating delivery who said it was looking more like 3-4 weeks. Its currently been over 2 weeks and no sign of the vehicle moving (advisor said she would get back in contact as soon as it was moving). How long did others wait from deposit to delivery for an inventory vehicle?

Depends on how close it is. As little as 1 week, typically 3-4 weeks. If it's the end of the quarter, I've seen people take delivery from a fresh custom order before an inventory order. The logistics are much more established vs having to deal with individual transports.

I agree. Even a custom order right now is being delivered before end of June.
