Last week i ordered a brand new inventory model that has recently come off the production line and is still in Fremont. On the My Tesla site it says “You will be contacted by a Tesla delivery specialist to arrange for payment and delivery of your Model S.” Will this change to give me an indication of the car’s journey across the US and subsequently across the Atlantic etc...? If so any idea on normal times for it to leave the Fremont facility? It will ultimately end up in South Manchester....

Thanks in advance.......

Your My Tesla will be updated but it’s a manual and sporadic affair I’m afraid. Tesla are all about quarter end deliveries, and especially year end, so I’d expect them to pull all the stops out and get the car to you for the end of December.

Unfortunately the crazy delivery rush can come at a cost, sometimes the cars are delivered in a less than perfect state. If you can, avoid the least minute rush and push delivery to the beginning of January. Handover will be a more pleasant experience.

In the meantime, find everything you can to read and watch Tesla related to help the time pass :)

Thanks....really interesting. Much appreciated. Never very good at being patient :)

You and me both ‘ instant gratification is too slow’ o_O

Mind you, at least by finding an inventory model you’ve skipped a couple of steps, might be was nearly 2 months from order date to start of production

Presumably you’ve used a referral code too? I read yesterday of someone that hadn’t and it wasn’t mentioned by sales either!

My MS took 1 month to go from confirmation to build finish, so hopefully you've saved yourself that wait!

Being an inventory car I think your journey will be quite different to mine; the custom cars are dismantled and shipped to the Netherlands to be reassembled before they ship to the UK, this means Tesla can claim they are shipping car parts rather than a whole car so import duty is less, but results in a much longer total shipping time.

From memory (which is sketchy at best) my car took 2 weeks to get across the US to the port, then 1 week to get across the Pond. I presume yours will ship directly to the UK, so you could get it by the end of Nov. I guess it all depends on if they wait to ship it will a lot of other cars.

I'm currently at 5wks from when my car was finished, and the car is now at the port waiting to be shipped from Netherlands to UK. Pretty quick compaired to some people I've heard about.

For those of you that ordered a New Inventory vehicle still on its way from the US, did MyTesla ever update with tracking detail, eg Arrived at Tilburg?

Just wondering if I should stop refreshing MyTesla every hour :)

Thanks.
My tracking details were never updated. Picking up my car on Friday.... mine was a new inventory that had just come off the production last be when I ordered it.

That corelates with what I’ve heard; inventory stuff doesn’t get the updates for some reason.

Here is the timeline for my custom order that may help you figure out the timescales. Collecting on Tuesday!

07/08/17 - Your order is confirmed and scheduled for production in our factory

15/09/17 - Your Tesla is currently in production

29/09/17 - Your Tesla has been built and is in transit from our Fremont factory to the port within the United States

16/10/17 - Your Tesla has been loaded onto a vessel and is en route to Europe

27/10/17 - Your Tesla has arrived at the Tilburg Factory in the Netherlands for final assembly. Your Tesla will soon be in transit to your delivery location

30/10/17 - Your Tesla has arrived at the port in Europe. Your Tesla will soon be in transit to your delivery location

09/11/17 - Your Tesla is undergoing preparation for delivery

Hopefully you won’t be waiting long!

Thanks, I’ve been given an guide of delivery during w/c 4th Dec. Using your timeline that would put my MS on the Maersk Idaho which arrives in Rotterdam on Tuesday.

Working out where the car is won’t make it arrive any sooner, but it gives me something to do whilst I wait. :)

This is true! I found myself obsessively checking... when I ordered someone told me not to bother checking; it'd be about 90 days.
It's being delivered on day 97.

I think Tesla must be wondering if someone is running a DDS attack on their systems with all their pre-delivery customers refreshing every 10 minutes!

Hi Folks,

I got an email from Tesla on Friday to tell me that my Model S has now gone onto a ship to cross the Atlantic.

This is good to hear and somewhat surprising as My Tesla page still states my order has been received and is waiting to go into production.

The point that puzzles me is that they suggest my car will be ready the last week of June which seems to be along time, as from what I have read the following schedule is realistic -

2 weeks to cross the Atlantic
3 days to Tilburg
7 days in Tilburg
5 Days to UK
7 Days to be prepped and ready

Even if you build in some extra capacity for delays it still feels like it will be ready late May not June.

Any other thoughts or experience would be appreciated. I want to be ready for my car and make sure I have sorted out all the other matters including selling my own car. I'm also off to Cornwall in mid-June so if it is going to arrive for the holiday I want to give my charging options some thought.

As always thanks in advance for any help or comments.

Best regards

That does sound a tad strange. The My Tesla updates are notoriously inaccurate, but the most automated is the one confirming the car has gone into production, and then the one saying the car is in transit to the port.

You’ve had neither of these, and the delivery date remains unchanged. That suggests the email is wrong. I know when mine was crossing the States on the train I, and many others, had an email saying the car was in Tilburg!

A call to your delivery specialist I think!
