Diagnostic Service Charge

I've recently booked a service at Dartford, one item is a passenger door rattle when closing the door. Today I received the following text -

Hi Ian VIN xxxxx, thank you for your Service request. In order to investigate your noise concern we require authorisation for diagnosis at a cost of £72.50 + VAT, however, this will only be charged should the concern be found to be due to damage or a 3rd party modification/repair. If the repair is covered by warranty this fee will not be levied. Please confirm whether you are happy for us to go ahead with this. Thank you, Tesla Service NB: All warranty concerns are subject to onsite inspection to determine validity.

Is this normal practice?

Yes, this is normal.

Yup, normal. Not great, but if its unambiguously a warranty issue then as they say it won't be levied.

Someone has to pay the staff at the end of the day, and if they can't claw the money back from Tesla via a warranty repair, then it has to be the customer.
