Zaxxon — Please let me know how this goes. We are planning a TR park visit next month after a family reunion in Billings and then down to Rapid City. The lack of any PlugShare resources past Billings was quite a hindered effort until I came across this thread.

Lightfoot — Terribly impressed with your offers of charging hospitality to fellow Tesla users traveling in the EV “badlands”. If ever I needed to avail myself dinner would be on us. Your M3 must be somewhat lonely there in ND.

TR Charging went great for someone just this past week in case that's helpful.

Thanks! It's a 4 Year old model S that shares its stable with the travelers. My Dad's M3 is still a couple months off (AWD).

I think I'll have charged Teslas for almost 250KW in 24 hours. That 240v plug is getting a workout! (And my S is beside on 110 trying to get juiced back up after racing in Bismarck earlier today)

Made it to Medora and the car is happily charging at the campground! It's a bit of a hike but we'll under a mile.

For the curious, we left Spearfish SC with 295 miles rated, hit Medora and did the Teddy Roosevelt South Unit loop, and finished at the campground with 48 miles left. Easy-peasy.

Glad to hear the trip worked out, 48 miles left means you were getting ~rated range. I think friendly to EV campgrounds/parks in areas with no other charging is very useful to have in Plugshare. I understand not putting them in for dense areas that have EV chargers a couple miles away. I recently went between Coralville, IA and St Louis, MO and without knowing about the State Park along the way might not have convinced my better half to take the Tesla. I called and the Rangers said that it'd be $5 if all I wanted to do was charge for a few hours. The 3 made it fine w/o needing to stop, but had it been windy or rainy and not knowing about the park, I didn't like the idea of having to drive slowly and hoping I would make it. I'd like to drive across ND on/near I-94 and have wondered about my options until the SC's get built. I think knowing which parks work better and have 14-50 vs TT-30 would be very useful.

Will be visiting Medora and Williston in July. Superchager in Dickinson will help a lot.

If it's not there by then, the campground in Medora will get you by, so long as you don't mind a near-mile walk to the hotel downtown. Here's hoping it doesn't spontaneously downpour when you head to get the car like it did for me. :)

Looks like Dickinson is kind of out there on its own.

One day travel will be an amazing thing, I'm currently making plans for overnight stays to leave the state later this spring. Looking at your post reminded me of something too, if they do I-94 from MN to Dickinson, ND the superchargers actually allow you to connect to Billings, MT through Spearfish, SD. A small detour but they could work on Montana later after filling up North Dakota. Too bad there isn't a Minot, ND station in the works :( ND state fair, Norsk Hostfest, and some other interesting things are there!

Thought it would be best to reply to this in the Dickinson thread.

325 from Dickinson to Billings. That is the rated range of a Model 3 LR RWD. I have a AWD rated 310. But I would expect to leave a Supercharger at 90% and arrive at no less than 10% So 250 miles usable in my Model 3. So I would need to at least do a stop for a 14-50 plug at a campground. That is a charge rate of about 30 miles for each hour of charge....2 1/2 hours charging. Could be done in one day but I would not do it that way. I would probably stop overnight in Glendive or Miles city at a Motel with a 110v outlet and get the added range that I need the while I sleep.

This is a generic update for ND, but where else to put it...

Prairie Knights Casino is the destination charger on the list. It has 2 banks of chargers (one by the hotel, one by the casino side). Each bank contains 2 Tesla units and 1 Clipper Creek. Unfortunately each banks shares what appears to be a 60 Amp circuit. (If I was charging and my Dad plugged in his M3, I went to ~22amp from 40 (Dad could pull 48Amp by himself)). I spoke with management about this and they were very receptive and wanted to make it better. I'll update if they make a change. It was fun to be able to go somewhere and actually charge AT the location I was going to. Almost like a little test of living in the future (again :) )!
