Disappearing phone interface/ controls

I have used a Galaxy s10 with the 3 that we bought in 2018 summer. Since about 2 years ago I have had this irritating problem that I have been hoping would go away with sw updates. Sometimes I start a phone call using the touchscreen, but then the phone controls disappear from the screen. Going into the phone menu does not bring them back. Smartphone controls are the only way I know how to hang up in this situation. At other times an incoming call can be heard through the car speakers, but the interface to answer or decline does not pop up. Once again, smartphone is the only way I can answer or reject.

These problems don't happen with every call, but I don't see any pattern in when then happen.

Have others experienced this? Is there a solution?

I think your phone controls can be accessed by swiping the area on the left side of your console below your car, where you swipe to see your trip details and your tire pressure.
