I heard about this yesterday. Sucks... I think this shift has to do with the 35K variances coming out soon.

Correct, from a sales and marketing viewpoint Tesla should charge more...what the market will support

Tesla claims Model 3 outsold all other premium sedans combined in US in July

So price will drop once the $7,500 runs out?
Tesla going to start discounting the model 3 by $3,575?

Don't bet on it. But it would be very entertaining.

I suspect this kind of thing: increasing prices, decreased features, will continue until Tesla has some real competitors who start significantly eating into their sales.

    PS. Don't hold your breath.

If/when they finally arrive, they'll be full from chomping up the ICE competition. They won't do so much consuming of the Model 3. ;)

As a wannabee Model 3 owner, I obviously dislike the price increase on the paint. As an investor I like it, it makes business sense at the moment. I'm sure if they see a demand problem from the increased prices, they'll decrease them. And pigs might fly.

Most of the "hyperbole and histrionics" are by the other posters making fun of OP.

Not variances. Variants, in this context.

Hopefully the price increase for paint will go to improving the quality of the paint. Recent Model 3’s are coming with terrible paint blisters. My friend rejected delivery of VIN 41xxx (mfg 6/2018) two weeks ago due to a very large blister that can only be fixed with repaint. He was reassigned VIN 44xxx (mfg 7/2018) and this car has not one, but 7 paint blisters, so he rejected delivery again. The delivery specialist said that recent cars have all been coming in like this.

Congratulations on racking up over 700 disagrees. That's gotta be one of the records in the history of TMC. I smell a troll.

BMW charges $1950 for IndividualPaint series options. Go whine on the BMW forums.

His original post currently only has 55 dislikes but that does put him in 8th place at the moment for the most disliked post of all time.
