I like having fused disconnects in line with my charging stations. Combined with fast blow fuses that can quench a DC arc you have a safer setup in case something shorts the car battery pack to the AC line.
I have recessed the equipment into the wall to make the depth work in my garage. I put 3/4" of insulation behind that equipment to prevent condensation inside my house.
