TLDR: You can now DiY install and activate HomeLink garage door opener function using the HomeLink Retrofit function via in-car Service Mode.

2022 LR AWD Model 3
VIN F318XXX Built July 2022
SW Ver: 2022.40.4.1
Module: HomeLink 5 (Option 2); Part Number: 1114984-00-B

1. Installed HL module part number 1114984-00-B. This was the module from my December 2018 Model 3 (see picture module built 01 Nov 2018) - and it still worked.

2. Put car in Service Mode: Car menu; Software: Touch/hold the Model 3 until it flashes; Enter "service".

3. Select: Actions >> HomeLink Retrofit >> Gateway Unlock (put the card key on sensor + upward turn stalk + brake). Start. Ok.

Important: Reboot the car computer and/or Power Down cycle the car.

Bam! HomeLink garage opener activated DiY.

Thanks to @rrlevy for the tip.
No more haggling with Tesla Service to reactivate/reuse/recycle our HL modules.

Anyone know how long it takes before the homelink icon shows up? I installed the module a few days ago and just did this push but am not seeing Homelink show up on my screen, despite it showing on the options

I also ran the 'test homelink' function in service mode and it said 'success'

The icon showed up right after I did the Power Down cycle.

Hello, I´v done the same procedure with my Model Y (1/2022) - install HL (1114984-00-B), Service mode - Homelink Retrofit... - but without luck.

The icon is still missing. Any suggestions?
See Additional Vehicle Information - Does it show Garage Door Opener: HomeLink 5 (Opt 2)?

Ensure to complete a Power Down cycle and/or Computer Reboot.

Yes, it´s there... HomeLink 5 (Opt2).

I´ve done a reset with the 2 steering wheel buttons.

Should I try something other?

Perform Power Cycle:

  1. Shift into Park.
  2. On the touchscreen, touch Controls > Safety > Power Off.
  3. Wait for at least two minutes without interacting with the vehicle. Do not open the doors, touch the brake pedal, touch the touchscreen, etc.
  4. After two minutes, press the brake pedal or open the door to wake the vehicle.

I can confirm this procedure works, in my 2022 MYP. The only difference is in the location of the plug.
The hardest part was getting my garage door opener to learn… I ended up accidentally erasing all my openers (no fault of this process, stupid Chamberlain opener…)

Thanks again!!!

If you follow the wiring, there may be some electrical tape or a small black zip tie that is keeping it close to where you currently mounted your homekit module. I would get automotive double sided tape and mount it to the front where the oem homekit bracket would go so it's closer to the front bumper area for better transmitting.
