Do Model 3 owners simple not know how to park?

I visited a super charger this weekend and there were 4 Model 3's charging.

Every banged up rims. One was every wheel 360 degrees on every wheel.

One was a nice looking White on White Performance and his 20" had a deep gouge on one wheel too.

I just don't get it. My Model 3 that I just sold didn't have a Mark.

My wife traded an 8 year old VW CC with Turbine like wheels. She had one ding that I buffed out.

Hint, make sure your mirrors TILT down in reverse. So even when pulling in forward, before you get to close, take a moment and put the car in reverse to see how close you are. Only takes a few seconds and may save your rims.

One other Hint, turn the wheel sharp into the curb, to "test" where the curb is. Don't "graze" it, that's when you kill your rims. I wouldn't do this with 20" or maybe even with 19" but 18" you can bump the curb at "safe" angle to feel where the curb is.

And don't blame the car. I have 2 sets of Aero's and 1 set of OEM 19". I don't think I've biffed a wheel in 25 years. I can't recall the last time I did. I love my cars to much I guess and I take my time when parallel parking.

I should have taken a photo. It was a pretty ugly scene at that Super Charger.
Yes we are all stupid, except for you! scratch that.......ha see what I did there?

P.S. Incidentally my wife curb rashed two tires at once within 2 weeks of getting the car, and it wasn't during parking. It was at a very tight curve in her work complex, while driving forward around a corner. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

First week I had the car it was a corner that got my rear passenger rim. I chalked that one up to the Model 3 being wider and not yet used to it. But I learned that the 18" rims are pretty easy to touch up with sandpaper and the Dupli-Color AFM0360 Dark Shadow Gray Ford.

I've since added a driver profile that brings in and lowers the side mirrors. Comes in handy when parallel parking.

That's a great idea, someone's thinking.

I scraped one rim early on when pulling to close to a curb. Totally my bad, but hey only one to fix right? Unfortunately, Mr. Az_Rael has managed to curb several of my other wheels in the interim. :(

Its OK tho, I paid him back by accidentally curbing one of his Arachnid wheels on a particularly tight drive thru. Payback is a B-- ;)

Speaking for myself it has nothing to do with parking. It also has nothing to do with 3 vs. S. It tends to happen much more easily with 21s (S), 22s (X), and 20s (3) due to design of the wheels; I notice the OP didn't have any of the wheels that it tends to happen more often with. Curious.

Titles that broadly paint entire categories of people based on a small volume of personal experiences does not reflect well on the person doing the painting.

Best wishes on keeping your wheels pristine to match the ego expressed in your post.

Remember these?

I still have one!!!
I took it off my 67 Coronet. Great conversation piece. Some people have no clue what it is. Sounds like a few of you could use it. LOL. :p

My wife hit a curb too, last weekend, right rear. She said that the Tesla's steering is so tight and precise that the slightest movement causes the car to turn, unlike my other two ICE vehicles, steering is loose and sloppy, but not on the M3.
Just when I thought I had heard all the excuses from the wife's driving mishaps...… this excuse comes along :D

In my opinion the tire is miss-sized for the rim. If you look at the profile of the tire rim, it looks like the lip of the rim is sticking out further than the tire. Same maneuvers that I used to park on every car I have ever had, resulted in dinged up rims on the model 3...

It doesn't literally stick out further, but it is very close and that's really it. It takes very little pressure to deform the tire and have the rim contact, there's no cushion that is typically found on car wheels.

The narrower tire has meaningful aerodynamic advantage. With the caps on the Aeros the wheels are basically flat sided, so a lot less drag.
