I believe that raising the suspension allows the vehicle to tilt towards the rear on hard acceleration reducing the pressures on the front wheels causing the front tires to loose traction and activating the traction control/antilock on the front wheel, which in turn opens and closes the power to the wheel. What I believe you are feeling in the torque to the wheel being adjusted and vibrating the halfshafts. Any comments ?
Nope Not a traction control issue, definitely a design issue which is why Tesla issued a service bulletin. Mine is fixed for now. Apparently ravens have the same issue.
There has to be multiple different issues here. I would consider mine more of a loud clicking/creaking sound than a shudder, like your testing the limits of the suspension. Regardless, I tested it again yesterday after seeing @shellderp post when it was 75 degrees and the sound was gone.
It is most certainly weather related. In warm climate, the sound disappears. Thats’s probably why this isn’t getting real attention, since in California it’s always warm. I’ve had it ... I want my money back, or I’m gonna sue. Already set things in motion.
I had an appointment set up to have this issue looked at, and they asked me to better document it. It is now in the 90s temp wise and I thought I'd go out and get it on video - and it barely happened at all. It is faint and there, but not nearly enough to keep the appointment for this issue alone. I do think the outside temp is a factor.
[QUOTE="...I do think the outside temp is a factor.[/QUOTE] I agree. Mine (non-performance non-raven 2018 model S) is much worse when it's cold. I barely hear it now.
I first noticed it on high suspension setting when my car was 1 year old. Now it’s 2 years old and it does it on normal height too. I’ve been at a service center, and they replied that it’s a non issue since it doesn’t happen on low height... I could accept the issue happening on high suspension only, but it’s unacceptable on normal. I will likely insist much more next time...
Hey, do you know the bulletin number? I have been having the same issue and it made me think it was the tires. It mostly happens at the start of a drive, almost as if it isn't warmed up enough but I know that is not the case. When I press the gas, press not smash, the car starts to shutter and the driver side mirror shows the vibration. I wanted to take it to Tesla, but they charge you just to look at it. I think that is unbelievable.
They fix this issue on my model x but it came back after 2 months. I hope they fix this again under warranty and not like the yellow screen which they fix one 1 time for free.
Hmmmm, you got the wrong perception about California. 30 years of living there, I froze my butt off for many days every year across the state, and in the Northern part it was worse. And by the way, Tahoe is in California and you can freeze to death there in the winter
curious when that was and if they replaced the clevis mounts. That has solved the problem for most owners.
Not for Raven Model S/X owners with the “new” adaptive air suspension. It’s been a known error for Tesla for least a year now and it is really strange why they haven’t found a permanent fix yet. I tested it yesterday in both low and normal settings and the death rattle is still there (Summer here in Europe with 25 degrees Celsius).
I checked... januari 2020 they did this: CLVS ASSY,DBL H HALFSHAFT, FR HALFSHAFT, FR ISO,LHS MTR MNT,SDU-F(1055366-00- 1.0 RH, MODEL X(1027115-00-D) 1.0 LH, MODEL X(1027111-00-D) 1.0 But... it's not the first time they 'say' they did something but did not do it... So, I can't trust the invoice.
Ok, so it looks like they replaced the shafts and clevis mount which should have corrected the issue. So are you sure the problem is now not a front end alignment issue? Can you confirm this is NOT a Raven?
yes, agree, but I was responding to the poster that the replacements should have fixed the problem because he had an older X, and maybe I misunderstood what he had.
Do you mean the alignment of the wheels? That has been done 2 times by tesla and 1 time by a tire specialist. I had issues with cupping. They said that the alignment done by Tesla was (totally) incorrect.
