So, as I posted in the other thread, I got a call from Tesla Delivery Coordination in Nevada this afternoon informing me that there was a Model Y spec'd the same as mine except for with black interior instead of white that was in Rockville, and asking if I wanted to take delivery. I wanted to add a bit more color to the story.
After seeing Ryan Shaw on Youtube able to get delivery quicker this weekend by modifying his order to take another available VIN, I thought I might be able to accelerate my delivery too, so I chatted with Tesla via online chat on Monday morning to tell them I'd be interested in possibly modifying my order to take delivery sooner, if possible, and indicated a willingness to adjust color scheme. They said they'd pass that along to a Delivery Coordinator and someone would call me. Sure enough, that evening a got a call from Nevada, and the person asked what options I'd be willing to adjust, and I indicated color. She said she'd check what was in my area and call me back. 45 Min later, she texted and said there were no VINs available in my area as of now.
So today, thinking that perhaps as the week had gone on, others may not have gone through with their purchase, I chatted again and mentioned that I'd spoken to someone earlier. The chat person this time directly confirmed what colors I'd be willing to swap to, and said they would pass along but obviously couldn't guaranty anything. Sure enough a couple hours later, the same delivery coordinator called me and this time said they had a blue performance that someone had not purchased available at the Rockville MD tesla center, and did I want it? She said they'd have to have it transported (I had selected Owings Mills MD as my center) but I told her that Rockville isn't that far and I'll just take it there, and she added the VIN to my account and about 45 min later I got an e-mail confirming the changed order, and my page had updated to ask for payment, which I promptly made. I haven't heard from Rockville yet but assume I will soon, and the MVPA is up on my account so I think I'm good to go.
Moral of the story, it can never hurt to ask, and everyone I spoke with or chatted with at Tesla was surprisingly eager to help and look into it (perhaps they've had enough sales fall through due to coronavirus that there are a lot of these out there, not sure). I kept expecting them to just say nope, wait your turn we'll call you don't call us, but in fact each time they were willing to see if somethng was out there.
I realize these are tough times and a car is kind of irrelevent (for me it's just a welcome distraction from being stuck in my house), obviously doesn't matter with the bigger things going on, but I'm still certainly excited, and I wanted to share this with others who may want to take delivery but not think it will be possible until their number comes up after the factory restart.
Good luck everyone.
