Does 2022.20.8 AP still require steering wheel torque?

How come GM super cruise doesn't require steering wheel torque, is it more advanced than Tesla AP/FSD?
Do some independent reading on your own (vs on a Tesla biased board), and come to your own conclusion....

Also Tesla's dont require steering wheel torque. Its an option. Tesla has configured the software to allow you to simply adjust the steering wheel volume for example(as another option, or adjust the speed via the other scroll wheel), in order to get past the steering wheel nag when in FSD or when in AP.

If thats not enough, there are plenty of aftermarket options (search ebay for "tesla steering counterweight") that are perfectly legal to use. Keep in mind no matter what, YOU the driver are always 100% responsible for the car no matter what you use or dont use. Makes zero difference.

They do require steering wheel input. Saying it's an option is a bit misleading and while the volume knob is a supplement to torque, it doesn't directly replace it.

On FSD/AP with cabin camera enabled, the more you look forward the less the wheel requires torque and the more consistent torque, the more you can look around. They go hand and hand. On FSD Beta, just using the volume adjustment will require much more consistent line of sight.

Yes, it's not going away.
[speculation] It likely will not be needed AFTER single stack integration (Beta v11) and Beta testing for a while. In all likelihood Tesla will we replace the legacy AP stack with the new highway stack rather than maintaining and updating 2 separate software stacks for the same purpose. However this will still likely be at least 6 months or more (Elon time) before standard AP users get it.

NO, AP does NOT require any steering wheel input at all to keep AP engaged/enabled. When the nag appears, you simply increase or decrease the volume via scroll wheel one notch. The nag immediately goes away (until the next time it comes on, then repeat the process).

This is intentional and by design.

Pressing or scrolling on the steering wheel controls to make any change is steering wheel input. Doesn't have to control the direction of the car to be an input but it does prove you have your hands on the wheel.

How much torque do you need to turn the dial. You are being super pedantic here….

I guess that means Tesla will be providing free installs of a million or so interior cameras for interior camera-less S and X cars?

Nope. Just stating facts.

If Tesla wanted to REQUIRE that you hold the steering wheel at all times on auto pilot then they would simply configure the AP software to Not let the volume scroll wheel defeat the nag. Or they would have done like some other car makers and install sensors in the actual steering wheel that detect your hand is on it.

Simple.

Dude. I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. It’s a genius system that watches you, via a camera, to make sure you are watching it, while you’re jerking off the steering device to make sure you feel involved in the process, and your feelings aren’t hurt by the car driving itself and leaving you out.
