A Weimaraner? We used to have one living down the street; quite a playful dog, it was, although a little scary to have around little children.
They are quite active, tend to jump, and are fairly large so they could knock small children over when they've just been introduced and/or are excited. Regular vigorous walks help a lot in this regard. Ours is an adjunct babysitter in our house:

A lot of sleeping going on at our house :p

I remember a baby my mum cared for, sitting in the garden, dog babysitting beside here. The baby got a biscuit she thought was a bit too hard. So she showed the biscuit to the dog, he softened it by likking it with his tongue, and then when soft enough the baby ate the biscuit!
It was so funny to watch them both at work!

Just thought I'd post this here:

My Dog: The Paradox - The Oatmeal

Just one objection:

My dog has many fears: Fireworks /…/ which is funny because none of these things present any real harm to him

Remember that dogs have much better and more sensitive hearing than we humans do.

/.../

Loud fireworks hurt dog's ears

/.../

The loud rapport from /…/ fireworks can [therefore] be painful to them.

Dog Health - Dog Hearing and the Fourth of July Fireworks

More on your wolf-descendant’s hearing:

The frequency range of dog hearing is approximately 40 Hz to 60,000 Hz,[123] which means that dogs can detect sounds far beyond the upper limit of the human auditory spectrum./…/ A dog can /…/ hear sounds at four times the distance [a human can].[125]

Our new puppy (now 15 weeks old) kept escaping from the kitchen to other parts of the house. Caught her on video today opening the "child-proof" gate I had set up to keep her from roaming...

Love how our other dog looks surprised!

You can teach an old dog new tricks. (Although my wife insists she can't teach me anything!)
