I think natural gas will be the dominant source of energy in 2040 but we will be in a real transition to solar by then.

Solar should be at price parity or below natural gas without any subsidies by 2040 but will take time to transition.

In terms of kWh, I think it is going to be solar and natural gas as the two main sources, if things go well, solar will be ahead by that point, if things don't go well, gas will still be the biggest. But in terms of new power installations, it is going to be mostly solar. I expect it to be a similar situation to what we have now, a bunch of small things, an old dirty big player that is on the verge of obsolescence, and a new, cleaner thing building up to scale. Today coal is the old dirty power, natural gas is cleaner. In twenty five years, gas will be the old dirty power and solar will be the cleaner version.
