#309 was originally delivered with all black sills but was retrofitted by Tesla with the black and silver insert sills by the previous owner in 2011 before I purchased it. I expect that's how the earlier VINs ended up with these door sills.

Thanks for all the photos, TEG! It's interesting to see the silver inserts in such an early car. Seems like there really s no rhyme or reason.

I suppose one possibility is that they replaced them with later versions.
Yes, it seems there is a wide variety mixed in over time.
I think the early all black ones had a somewhat delicate vinyl cover that could be prone to tears and scratches. So, I think quite a few Roadsters had them replaced over the years. Are they all just held in place with Velcro so they just pop off?

Awesome TEG.

Anyone have pics of the

Yes, after you remove the front panel. There may be a screw there or something. But the whole length is held down by velcro. Makes for breaking the non-carbon fiber that much easier, you have to be delicate with those or else the sill will crack, just like handling an egg.

Seems likely. Mine came with the plain black. The shop working on my car ordered a replacement, and Tesla sent one with a silver inset. The plain black ones seem the out of stocks so they had to order another one to match the other side.
