Driver side window shattered when door button pushed to open the driver's door

There were no extenuating circumstances although the slot at the front of the door window appears wider than normal. The window broke without the door being forced open and the window gapped down as it usually does when opening the door. The cracks originated at the front of the window with worst damage at the front window angle inside the door. My wife looked for objects or outside causes that may have caused the window o break but neither heard or found any around the car.

I would reach out to mobile service because there could be something in the door pinching the glass when it open or close. Causing it to crack. I would reach out to them for a better answer.

I also had a similar incident where the driver side window shattered. I believe our incident could be vandalism because there were some scratches on the frame of the window immediately above the shattered area. Since your damages look similar to mine, I wanted if in our case you also found scratches on the frame?

More so was it broke when she arrived or did it break when the door was opened. If prior my guess is someone tried to get in.

Same problem with our Model Y 2023 today. The passenger side glass got shattered alone when my wife opened the door. We also have scratches on the frame and we are sure there was no vandalism.

I brougth the car today to TELSA service. They said it was "my fault" as the door was opened by the handler (the call emergency opening" while the windows were being closed. It sounds ridiculous to me, besides no one told me it could not be done. They justified saying it is somewhere in the ones manual. They charged USD 265,00 to change the glass, and I still need to pay again for the sun protection tint (externally). I am really disappointed with the car, after 2 weeks of use. Lets see if I will change my mind or my car soon!

Sorry. Really should consider reviewing the manual. It’s a technology car and there is lots to know. Most know and they are very clear you Have to use the button on exit. I often educate Anyone how to exit when they ride passenger.

Wonder what the thinking was when they decided to go with these frameless doors? Seems they always have problems like being more prone to break, leak, etc. Are there any benefits to a frameless door other than looking cool?

Those scratches on the frame would indeed indicate vandalism, or some other unfortunate damage. It's basically a direct link to why your glass shattered, and makes sense why it would not be covered under warranty.

Mine has done exactly the same today a 2023 Model 3.

I close the door but the window had already returned to it's "closed" position and without realizing I closed the door and the window has gone POP.

Very much a design flaw with the vehicle.

Logged it within the App but nothing back from Tesla as of yet.
