Driving with the back hatch open?

Hey guys, quick question here: might have to pick up a couple of 8‘ fenceposts tomorrow and I’d rather not go to the trouble of flopping around on the ground to hook up the trailer. It’s a short drive, just a couple of miles, is it safe to leave them sticking out the back (properly strapped down of course) with the hatch partially closed and also tied?

Yup, I've done it multiple times. Just be mindful to secure the hatch well enough that it doesn't damage itself banging against the posts. I usually tie it down with a padding between the hatch and whatever's sticking out.

I know if you try to drive with the falcon doors open, it will beep non-stop. You can silence the beeping by trying to enable Autopilot. The same might apply to the liftgate.

Thanks for the reassurance. Turns out two 8’ posts fit nicely propped up on the center console with the hatch completely closed.

Be mindful of your exhaust fumes that can migrate back into the cabin.

Simple fix. Don't drive near ICE vehicles.
