Great shot with the Passenger Loading Zone and <-->
So I was giving a lecture to a few hundred people and I was 15" to start time when I got to the convention center and there was an half hour wait to get into the parking structure (this was a massive convention and I was only a side show) with lines wrapped around the building. Life is how you handle plan b! I saw a loading zone and just left T-reX there hoping I would not get towed in the 90" that I'd be back. I made sure it was not a red curb or hydrant and figured on a $250 ticket. When I got back I saw the ticket on the windshield from a far. There were 10 different options ranging from a $400 parking ticket on down to the lowest which was $34... and that, the $34 box, was the one they checked for me! Parking was $35 by the way! I was floored! Score!

Then a retired POLICE officer who now did parking enforcement for the city tapped on my window as I was about to leave; shoot, he came back to tell me he had made an error but I rolled down my window courteously and the first words out of his mouth were, "tell me how you like your Tesla... I haven't seen one of these yet!" He was originally from Detroit and loved cars and had been following Tesla. He already had a deposit down on a Model 3! We then chatted for 30" and I gave him a tour of the car. He told me that he did not want to give me a ticket at all but his partner insisted so they compromised on the cheapest infraction even though he noticed I'd been gone for over an hour! Then I asked him if I could get out and take some pictures of the car as I'd noticed that shot (4 posts ago) as I was giving him the run-down of the Model X! Perfect placement of that parking sign in the background between the FWD & the STOP sign in the foreground. Thanx for reading (if you got this far)

People have asked how I went with the (overly aggressive) look of my current wheel. You may remember on my Model S ("The Hun!") also had an equally as polarizing, 'take no prisoners' approach. There are 31 flavors of ice cream and this is my flavor but there are some subtleties you may not realize. For instance to maximize the two-toned approach, note that each of the spokes have a vein that is off-center from the underlying spoke:

I think that T-Sportline has done a great job at putting together a guide for OEM Tesla X (& S) wheels so that you have the requisite information, all in one place, no matter whose aftermarket wheels you go with.

When my wife's Maz last month had a MANDATORY recall for unintended acceleration, something I had experienced in it from day 1 and told her was dangerous, NOBODY let us know that there was a recall.

When the Tesla Model X had a well publicized VOLUNTARY recall for some 3rd row seat bolt that on CAD failed once and never was replicated nor injuries ever occurred, dozens let us know about it! And you think your world is not influenced by the media?

Here's the end to that recall story. The Tesla Service Center Ranger came to my work and the serviceman repaired it in about 1/2 hour. I snuck a peak & a pic from our penthouse office view. Thank you Tesla for being a new century car company!

#BiggestRegret has been getting the 7 passenger configuration. The rear view is so impeded. For some who don't much use their rear view mirror it won't be a problem. Just wish that they would have made that middle seat in the 2nd row with a foldable headrest the way the 3rd row seats do. Didn't want to lop it off so had the entire seat removed! Also now feels more luxed-up with "captains chair" configuration.

If you need the 7 seats, get it. If you can get away with the 6 go with that better than the 5 which just puts that middle seat back in the 2nd row.

Here are pix post surgery...

Pioneers don't always strike gold and often fail! I come here to the alter of TMC to often learn from others and also allow others learn from me...

When I posted about removing the middle seat from the 2nd row there was a sub-thread started on a closed group on Facebook (TESLAMODELXOwnersClub) about it invalidating the warranty the way others had heard could happen if you installed a dashcam or new wheels. That was quickly dispelled with information about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 (Magnuson-Moss Act).

Then one poster (thank you) came along with a post that raised my antennae when he said, "Firmware upgrades will not be done because the software will be missing the seat module". Things that make you go, "hmmmmm". But to test that we had to wait for a software update...

My Tesla software update did NOT complete! Now maybe it was because the software update was specifically to do with that middle 2nd row seat or maybe that will happen each time? Until Tesla comes up with a solution for those of us who got 7-seats but retrospectively wish for 6-seats, here is how I will test that theory: I will replace the seat and get that update and then remove it again to see if future updates that may not have anything to do with the seats also fail or go through. My gut says that they will fail but theories need to be tested to push the edge of the envelope. It was that way when the Roadster first came out and all of us newbies sat around and wondered what would happen when it ran out of juice so I was the first to purposely catalog that.

I'll keep y'all up to date as information rolls in.

The latest update specifically addressed seat controller among other things. My guess is your 6-seater failed the checksum before the update was able to install and overwrite the controller software. Once you reinstall the seat and allow the update, you should be able to install new updates that do not address the seats. In the future, someone, maybe even tesla can provide us with a dummy plug that will prevent this kind of error. But you are definitely a pioneer. What did you do about the hole in the floor? How large was it once the seat was removed?

From your mouth to Elon's ears!

As for the hole, I had a shop do the surgery so all I saw was this first picture, which is the 7-seat floor mat and now the next two pictures which is the new customized 6-seat floor mat!

ARTISTS...
& now for the whimsical...
Myself and a few X-ficianados have come up with a hashtag and we're looking for someone to design a logo for it:
#WUPD
Wings Up Police Department:
Restoring Innovation & Responsibility
To The American Automotive Industry

No, this post is not as important as broken FWD or doors that eat alive people's legs but all work and no play makes Ian a dull boy! Happy to take your ideas on massaging the message but the #WUPD stays!

Over the last 7 years of having my Tesla(s) aftermarket modified by AE54 & TSportline I've learned a lot about cars in a lot of areas. Most recently, I started hearing (both here in PMs and on Facebook groups) an increasingly loud chorus on how inserting virtually ANYTHING aftermarket will VOID the warranty. If it just came from 'Nervous Nellys' I'd just dismiss it as I had for 7 years (& before on other cars). But now I started hearing multiple times about TESLA Service Center employees and TESLA Product Specialists (from all different parts of the country) saying things like from this Blackvue Dashcam entry from a 5/18/16 post in a TESLA MODEL X Owners Club, Closed Group:
"I asked our SC if they can recommend a camera installer. In response they said they do not support any 3rd party add ons as it will void tesla warranty."
But it wasn't just that guy in one part of the country, there were others, both men & women, young & old who were repeating similar things that TESLA employees were saying!

So let's clear the air...
Can an automotive dealership void your warranty?
Understanding the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975.

Nearly everyone has heard about someone who has taken a vehicle that has been modified with aftermarket parts to a dealer for warranty service, only to have the dealer refuse to cover the defective items. The dealer usually states that because of the aftermarket parts the warranty is void, without even attempting to determine whether the aftermarket part caused the problem.
This is illegal!

The mere presence of aftermarket parts doesn't void the warranty. In cases where such a failed aftermarket part is responsible for a warranty claim, the vehicle manufacturer must arrange a settlement with the consumer, but by law the new - vehicle warranty is not voided!

Okay, case closed! Drop the mic! :p
