I have a whining noise that is getting louder under load. It's not horrible but at 80K is it showing age.

Not sure you can hear this well so turn it up.

Yup time to get it replaced. Still under warranty hopefully. Which model is it and how where did you purchase it?

I have a slightly louder whine on my recently bought 2016 S90D - even at low speeds. Car is at 40k miles and under warranty. So far I thought this to be normal, guess it might be time to talk to service?

Beside the noise not being nice, does it indicate any imminent drive unit failure?

Its a sign that something inside is wearing out or wore out or out of spec. If you do a search on here for drive unit milling noise you will find answers to your questions.

is this whistling for me but it sounds like a transformer under load or an electric motor.
This is not normal, it has to be replaced I think so
