According to the Model 3 thread below, Pilot Sport AS 3+ trade-off is higher Wh/m over MXM4:

New Tires and Impact to Range

I am still debating between AS 3+ and Vredestein Quatro Pro when it's time to replace my Pirelli P7+ set. I like the quiet, comfortable P7+ Grand Touring tires but wish they had more grip.

OEM 19" Michelin Primacy MXM4 98W tires on my AP1 2015 Model S are just about ready to be replaced.

Is there a substantially better choice?
For 80,000 or more miles I ran the Primacy and they did fine, and wore well. Just this spring, I opted for Michelin - Premier A/S. I am very impressed with these as far as comfort and handling. I have not charted the efficiency.

I was hesitant going with the P7+ due to some reviews stating the grip issue you mention, but decided to take a chance on the P7+ II (new version) that was released earlier this year. Have had them on since June and find them to be well-rounded performers. The 70,000 mile tread life warranty was the clincher.

Prior to that I ran OEM Primacy exclusively (three sets over 100k miles, avg 40k miles per set).

I was reading some reviews saying they still grip the rain grooves on freeways. Are these things true?

Can you please elaborate? I'm interested in the Vredestein. What did you have before them? What's their best quality? Any issues with grip or traction during spirited driving? What about efficiency? Have you noticed increased consumption compared to an earlier tire?
I drive very spirited. These tires have great traction -- I'd not gotten them to make any noise in 10k miles. Never had tires like that before. Just had my tires rotated by Tesla and @ 10k used 2mm (7 mm remain). So, I expect around 30-40k miles on them. Which has basically been the norm on the last 2 sets of tires.

My driving has been in rain and dry. I wish I got a chance to try them in winter. Bought them based on tirerack's review of them.

I previously had Nokian WR3s. I was not happening with their wet traction. Dry/Winter was great. I'm not sure what the car came with - stock tires -- but they were horrible. I am recommending these tires to everyone.

My consumption has not increased any (385). I have a fairly short commute (10-15) and a heavy foot that hits the floor multiple times a day.

I put a new set of MXM4 on my S. They are notoriously out of round or have flat spots. You may experience vibrations and several visits to the tire shop for rebalancing without resolution, but the vibes will disappear after a while.

This Vredestein brand isnt sold anywhere locally. Tirerack seems like the only option
Btw, my discount tire location told me they'd install the tires (it was around 140) from tire rack. Next time I'll take them up on that if they can't get them. I ended up buying from a local shop -- who gave me an estimate -- then ended up charging me more for shipping...

Do you mean tramlining? If so, the answer is no. At least on my commute, which is 95% freeway.

The only downside so far has been a slight decrease in efficiency, about 2-3%, but they are 20" diameter so not sure if the lower profile has anything to do with it.
