Durability of 18 vs 19 inch wheels/tires?

The fragility of the 20 inch spec for M3 seems well documented but does anyone know if there is a significant difference in durability of 19 inch tires vs 18 inch tires? Is it basically the same? Are there any cases of 18s blowing a tire from bad roads or do they really mitigate that risk?

The 20" spec for M3 is not "fragile". If you put 20" wheels and tires on a BMW, it will be "fragile" also. The fragility comes from less tire sidewall compared to smaller wheel sizes. So an 18" inch wheel will have the most sidewall, which enables it to absorb bumps better than the 20". The 19" will have more sidewall than the 20" but less than the 18".
