    His video series is interesting to watch. IIRC, he knew little about EV's, welding, etc when he started his project and was pretty much self taught.

    The 18650 modules he mentions are sold by EV West: Lithium Ion 18650 EV Module - 57 Volt, 3kWh, EV West - Electric Vehicle Parts, Components, EVSE Charging Stations, Electric Car Conversion Kits. They appear to have come from scrapped Smart ED's (Tesla designed drivetrain). I was thinking about using a couple for an e-boat project I have in mind.

    The eSamba isn't actually a "real" Samba - they were too rare and expensive - so he bought a VW bus and modified it to (see self-taught welding, above), which I think is even more impressive.
