I am thinking of a trip from Boston to Philly over Easter weekend. 285 miles door to door. The Milford SC is right in the middle of the route, but with only four charing stations (two chargers on each side) I am concerned about the number of tesla owners thinking about the same trip. I am not concerned about range anxiety, rather complaining family anxiety. I am going to scope out some other 30a stations in the area.

30A stations? Just how badly do you want to torture your family members?:scared:

Drivers won't be at those Superchargers for very long.

I know. Bad idea. The irony is that I never would have considered taking the trip with my s5. It is just so enticing to consider that I could take a trip like this with the Tesla.

I'd say your main problem is recharging in Philly.

I did this trip last weekend when my wife's flight was cancelled due to the snow and took her ICE SUV.
I had 5 minutes to make the car decision and pack, we left at 4:30pm, got there at 10:10pm with just a stop for dinner.
Looking back I would have loved to have taken the S but there was no charging by Drexel U./U. Penn.
Her SUV is EXTREMELY LOUD at 73MPH or above!

We left at 4:15pm Saturday and back home at 10:10pm with 2 stops (fillup and dinner).

Next time I'm taking the Model S when I have more than 5 minutes to plan the trip. But I've started a discussion
with Drexel U. about chargers. I've got to call the Hilton next...

Looking at plugshare, I found a few 30a chargers at walgreens in the northeast philly suburbs that are on a network called Semacharge, but are free. the backup plan is a 30a dryer outlet at my family.

Since I was staying in the city and the roads were questionable at best I took the SUV.
With more than 5 minutes to plan the next trip I hope to take the Model S...

Is there anyway to find out if the Milford supercharger is available online or see how much time the supercharger has been in use over the course of a day? One of the charging networks provides statistics on % of time available morning, afternoon, evening. thanks

Just an FYI. Made a trip from Andover, MA to Darien, CT today. I partially range charged to 255 miles before I left. It wasn't needed and it wasn't close. 85 miles left at Milford, CT (Southbound). On the way home I topped off a standard charge and got back to Andover, MA with 52 miles. My speed ranged from 62-78 MPH (70+/- avg) on the way home and got 314 Wh/Mi easily. You can definitely get the rated range at 62MPH and cruise control. Outside was 65 degrees and climate was set to 68 degrees. Tires also properly inflated. Very effortless!!!!! I think the key is to keep at least a 20% buffer and start off slow so you don't end up short.

Superchargers on both the Northbound and Southbound sides are fantastic. Charged initially at about 275 MPH. Need to pull up close as the charge cords do NOT extend. No problem though.

Word from folks at the Watertown Service Center is to expect a SC between the current pair in CT and DE -- which we'll affectionately dub the "Broder charger." Also rumors that Tesla has been talking to the towns of Brattleboro and Burlington VT.

IMO, Brattleboro isn't the right place: it's either too far north or too far south. An SC in Greenfield MA would serve a similar role (support NYC -> VT) but also support east-west travel on MA Route 2, which is a much more enjoyable drive than the Mass Pike (I-90). A Brattleboro charger doesn't fill the role of a West Lebanon/White River Junction charger, either, in supporting drivers from eastern New England heading into Vermont or Quebec. Nothing against Brattleboro -- lovely place -- but it's not the right place for the next New England supercharger.

I agree, Robert. farther north (West Lebanon) or south makes more sense. And at 215 miles, Burlington is a stretch from Boston. West Lebanon is right in between, and catches 91 as well as 89.

Google-mapping, I think it depends how close to Burlington they'd put the Supercharger.
Burlington - Brattleboro is 145, Greenfield would add another 20. 165 may be fine for an 85kWh, but I think that's pushing a 60kWh in a hilly/mountainous winter state, especially after some aging. Besides, there may be other advantages to locating in VT instead of MA.

The other thing about VT is that it's often visited in the winter so range from NY and Boston is a bigger issue. I completely agree that the White River Junction area is the better site by far.

Using Google maps, Milford, CT to Boston, MA is 161 miles via I-95, or 147 miles via I-84 and I-90.

It seems they do need one in the Boston area, if they intend to support the 60KW Model S... Those ranges are about the max accounting for winter weather and pack degradation over time. Where is the SC in Boston going to be located?

I think in general Tesla is targeting putting super chargers between cities, rather than in cities. I would guess the Charlton Plaza. It's half way between Milford and Boston and is on the Mass Pike, meaning it would also support trips to western Mass.

That being said, Boston, as opposed to the Charlton Plaza, is what's shown on Tesla's long term map (shown below), so maybe I'm wrong.

The most important issue for I-89 is Montreal-Boston traffic. IMO, a logical first stop for the Montreal traffic would be Williston VT, just south of Burlington. (About 100 miles from Montreal. This is probably about the right distance, to allow for city traffic when leaving Montreal and potential delays at the border.) There is a large shopping plaza just off the Williston exit called Maple Tree Place. Plenty of room for superchargers. There's Starbucks, shopping, and a few chain restaurants. This stop would put Burlington area Tesla owners on the same footing as the Montrealers for the rest of the drive to Boston.

The next logical stop would be somewhere near Bow NH (147 miles from Williston VT) or go further south to Manchester NH (159 miles from Williston VT)

Ideally, there should also be a supercharger on the North side of Boston, perhaps near the intersection of I-93 and I-95.
