Edinburgh MOT options - can you recommend a garage

We need to carry out our first MOT shortly. Can anyone recommend an independent garage with experience of handling Teslas? thanks

Can't recommend you anyone, but I had my MOT done today actually. Lots a little dramas along the way as I had to take it to two different places but my advice would be to buy some jack pads otherwise you'll be cringing at the way some places try to jack up the car. I thought taking it to a larger chain that they would know about using jack pads but they refused to use them.. Independent garage is certainly the way to go.

I'm just replying to this thread to keep it up the list a little longer ... come on Edinburgh S and X drivers ... somebody must have had an MOT! (BTW, definitely a good idea to get the jack pads (IMHO)... the alternative may be a "helpful" mechanic unwittingly causing a problem.)

I was always very happy with AutoMak on glasgow road, but that's ICE days.

Am also still -considering- a suspension swap and I have to admit, a little concerned about finding a place to trust with that locally.

Thanks - got my (homemade) jack pads all ready to go! But really has no-one in Edinburgh had an MOT yet?
The mot bay/ramp should be a drive on, all 4 wheels should make contact with the lift so you won't need jack pads if all you're doing is an MOT.

I can't recommend any garages in the region that specialise in Tesla but there is one in Rosyth that are geared up for more technical and luxury cars:

https://oneillmtrs.co.uk/

Used them a few times and they've got a lot of high tech gear and a good understanding of diagnostics and electrics.

Ultimately, I don't think the process is any harder than for an ICE car (if not a bit easier) it's just about finding someone you trust.

The council do MOT too. Quite a big lead time but they have no incentive to find anything wrong as they're unable to complete any repairs for you.

Should I understand from this thread that the service centre don't do MOTs?

I just sent a message to Edinburgh to book my car in for an MOT and service.

I know there is no fixed service schedule but I feel the car should be looked over as it is 2 years since it was serviced (when there was a service schedule). Do they offer some kind check?

Don't believe they do MOT themselves but maybe they have agreements with other garages?

They're not listed in the governments directory of Active MOT test stations anyway:

Old indi's that weren't certed to MOT's would do your service and drive the car to the MOT for you at their friendly center. Possibly the service centre will do the same? Seems like a good idea as they will cover anything that does need doing (brake fluid will still need doing sometimes) then drive it to a place that they put lots of teslas through. Which seems like a good idea.

Or they will just call you back and say take it to Jimmy. Which still puts you ahead.

The Service Centre texted me to say that they do not carry out MOTs and I need to get it done myself at a third party garage.

They also didn't give me any service options or prices, just said that the car is booked in for 1 day.

Typical Tesla service in that they don't organise MOTs or even suggest a place that can do it.

Every car I have ever owned either does them or organises it for you. I just had my 911 for its MOT at the local Porsche dealer and had a nice test drive in a Taycan while I waited.

I've just had my 3 year old Model X successfully MOT'd from Halfords on Seafield Road in Edinburgh. They were great. They've done several Teslas there recently (X,S,3).

I also enquired with O'Neills in Rosyth who also can take all models. Also very friendly - but didn't use them in the end.

I can't see that they can have MOTd a Model 3 since they've not been in the UK for 3 years ... the first ones only arrived early summer 2019.
