Is there a way to edit an existing post? I'm the OP of a pretty long thread and I'd like to update the first post in the thread with new information. As it is, newcomers see the original post and reply to it directly, not knowing that several pages into the thread the original issue was resolved.

Editing a post (particularly after a long time) is a paid member benefit. I don't remember exactly what the time limits are.
In the situation you described, it's probably easiest to Report the original post in the thread to the moderators and describe how you want the post updated. Sometimes we might also want to add something like "[RESOLVED]" to thread title to make it extra-clear.
