A team of Swiss student engineers has set a new Guinness world record for acceleration by building and racing an electric racing car that went from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 1.513 seconds.

The grimsel car smashed the previous record by more than a quarter of a second during its run on Wednesday at the Dubendorf air base near Zurich, reaching the landmark speed on 30 metres (98 feet) of track.

Did you watch the video? They found a Norwegian goddess with lvl 4 Launch skills.

It's amazing just how little space the car requires to pick up speed. Watching this makes me think Tesla are gonna go to town with the next Roadster. Perhaps they will target sub 2s for the 100km/h run knowing that nothing tops Plaid, so from a product planning standpoint the Roadster may represent the pinnacle and fulfilment of Tesla striving to embarrass ICE cars in the acceleration stakes.

While a speculated sub 2 seconds for the unholy dash is not unassailable (other OEMs wont be standing still and the Roadster may not be in production until half a dozen years from now), there isn't a single street legal ICE that will ever touch that number - only exotic hybrid supercars and full electrics will have a hope for the next decade to come.

For reference the current (street legal) flag holder is the Porsche 918 Spyder with 2.5s powered by a 4.8L V8 + two electric motors.

I was at a presentation of the last generation car (it had 1.7 sec 0-100 kph). The car called grimsel.

Some Translation from the Page and some additional information :
Weight: 370 lbs (168kg)
4x 37 kW synchronous wheel hub motors (one motor with planetary gear weights just 7.5 pounds)
Torque: 1650 NM
Battery: LiPo
Everying is carbon (yes fully carbon rims), except the frame for the driver seat. Chassi and frame weights together
The driver was a tiny girl, so weight of the driver is definitly an important factor.
