Zero's electric motorcycles quality for stimulus tax credits - AutoblogGreen

As part of the sweeping changes being made through various pieces of legislation floating through the U.S. Senate and Congress, fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will soon be eligible for tax credits, including those with two or three wheels. One benefactor to this legislation is Zero Motorcycles, a company that already has one electric off-road motorcycle on the market and has plans to introduce a new road-going version this spring. That new model, known as the Zero S Supermoto, will be eligible for a 10 percent tax credit under the new plan.

From zero to Zero Motorcycles - Santa Cruz Sentinel

Saiki sold his house to start Zero Motorcycles, and right now it looks like a worthwhile sacrifice. He expects to sell 1,000 bikes this year, compared with 200 in 2008. He also plans to hire 35 more employees by 2010 as people continue to look for cheaper, greener modes of transportation.

His new model, the street-legal Zero S, will be released by spring. Using a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack, the motorcycle has a top speed of 70 mph and range of 60 miles. Though it will sell for $10,000, Saiki estimates the Zero S will have an operating cost of 1 cent per mile.

The front fender so large and mounted up high makes it still look like a dirt bike.

I wonder why they didn't put a smaller fender at the bottom of the forks typical for a street bike.

The "Zero S" and "GPR-S" are "head to head" competitors in the $10K electric commuter bike category.
