More details from Electrek... First Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor Performance rolls off new assembly line A month after unveiling the new dual motor and dual motor performance versions of the Model 3, Elon Musk confirmed that the first Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor Performance rolled off the company’s new assembly line in Fremont today. Earlier today, we reported on an email Musk sent to employees about the current push to increase Model 3 to 5,000 units per week. It included bringing up the new general assembly line that Tesla is building up under a giant new tent at the Fremont factory. While they are still working on increasing production, Musk has now confirmed that the line is up and running as it just produced the “first Model 3 dual motor performance.” The CEO released the following picture of the Performance Model 3 off the assembly line:
Great narrative for short sellers. Model 3s made by disgruntled factory workers inside tents while Elon begs for handouts to sleep on a better couch.
What’s frightening is if Elon says F it to the shorts and turn all 5000 Model 3s per week as the 80k Models. Demand won’t last forever but long enough to trigger a squeeze would be hilarious.
Based on what exactly? I say that is highly doubtful considering the battery pack in in the skateboard when it is married to the body. And you would have to take the back seats out to put the battery in it. It would show a very poor assembly process if they build most of the car and then have to take it back apart to finish it.
If it were only a test run for the GA setup, they might leave the risk/ weight of the pack out of the chassis. But I doubt it.... Could be the wheels are pushed inward slightly pre loading the suspension. Like if the entire thing was lifted with the wheels hanging and then set down, so they need to slide outward for the arms to pivot.
General assembly should be where the battery and chassis come together. It *should* have a battery in it already.
Yeah, the rotors are bigger. Wish I would have seen that pic 3 months ago. I think I will commit to the Jaguar unless Tesla can prove it's a real performance car, not just a 0-60 mph car.
Also, a few hours ago I was out shopping in downtown San Mateo. As I was looking for parking, a matte black Model 3 with what looked like dark arachnid wheels pulled in to a parking structure ahead of me. It was too late for me to chase it, or snap a picture, but I'm making up all kinds of hypothesis in my head.
