Elon's statement in 2015 regarding hypermiling up to 620mi/998km

〝Our company will launch a vehicle with 620 miles (998 km)range by 2017."Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in an interview on September 29, 2015.He had not stated a position on whether the new model will upgrade on the basis of existing models or as a brand new car.

At present,Tesla has only two products,the Model S and the Model X.Till 2015, the most powerful range of Tesla vehicles is the Model S 90D and its maximum range is 528 kilometers.As things stand,there are certain challenges to reach a range of 998 kilometers .

Tesla's official has claimed that compared with the old models, range of the new models they launched each year will improve 5% to 10%.If we calculate like this,the maximum will be just 639 km by 2017,so Tesla needs to pay great effort to fulfill the goals of 998 km range if it want to upgrade the new vehice on the basis of the Model S.

On this basis, the author thinks that it is likely the parameters that set up for the new model.And according to the previous message,the vehicle tesla will launch recently is only the Model 3.That message make our doubts clear.

Of course, the context of that conversation was how an owner had hyper miled his car to over 700 km, not a product announcement. I guess if you can hyper mile a 100D to 1000km you could consider this valuable promise kept.
Yes, I guessed that this was the basis for this rumor that the OP is bringing in here. I just wanted it to be confirmed.
 
This is reporting from ancient times (2015)... latest info is that 100kwh battery is the max Tesla plans in the near future
As a few people point out JB and others have said they'll have gains from inverters, internal wiring resistance and other efforts for weight reduction and reduced aerodynamic and friction losses that in aggregate will be more importance than kWh capacity increases. Elon very explicitly said "battery capacity" rather than "range". There is a great deal of technological improvement coming in Model 3 that may not be sexy, probably also coming for S and X too. The lower the battery capacity required the lighter the chassis needs to be and the virtuous cycle can continue.
 
@Xiao ma ge your post is not providing the appropriate context, and contains several factual errors.

Elon Musk did not say that in 2017 Tesla will launch a new model with a range of 620 miles as measured by any government agency. He has discussed how far a Tesla can go on a single charge if driven very slowly, but that is not real world usage. You need to qualify your range statements with regard to average speed and what test standard is being used to measure the range (US, European, Chinese, Japanese).

Telsa never claimed that each year their cars range would "improve 5% to 10%". Elon and JB have stated many times that on average battery energy density improves at about that rate annually. That is a very different statement compared to what you wrote.

Also, the third photo you posted is not the "Model 3 factory", it is the Tesla Design Studio in Hawthorne, California.

@Xiao ma ge Are you quoting from an article somewhere? You could simply post a link to the article instead of the entire thing. That would also let people see the source of the info and comment on it's merits. If this is the same source as the last article you posted, you may want to avoid them in the future, they seem to report a lot of things taken completely out of context, and to just flat out get things wrong as well.

It could have happened if blasphemy were allowed.

Let's say you need to go 600 miles to the next charging facility or destination. The NAV knows this. Much earlier in the trip it fires up a small 25kWh generator like is found on an i3 but with a 6 gallon tank. Voila. While 25kWh itself won't provide any acceleration to speak of, it's just used to enhance range, not power. You would not use much gasoline per mile either since >1/2 the power is stored electricity, and <1/2 is ICE. It would only be used if necessary and would go 100 mpg or higher for such trips.

Spencer further reduced rolling resistance by increasing tire pressure to 50 psi." and "average speed of 22 mph". So not even close to how people drive. The OP's post shows range numbers that are not reflective of real world conditions.
This guy drove his S85D 550 miles:

S100D was launched in 2017, and the range difference between 100D and 85D is 335-270=65, so even without hypermiling, you're already at ~620 miles. So there you go! It already happened and nobody noticed!

The OP's post shows range numbers that are not reflective of real world conditions.
