First article I've come across on Engie, who was one of the big winners in the latest Arena funding round that focuses on cities, winning grants for 100 sites.

To be rolled out by Jetcharge. Not clear if they will use Chargefox for billing (related to Jetcharge) or yet another app.

Looks like it will just be the minimum of 2x50kW stations.

Overseas they have a bunch of chargers in and around Leeds in the UK (that are free for up to 75min, until October 2021). Many located at Asda supermarkets.

A bit more detail!

Major Australian shopping centre network Vicinity Centres, which operates big-name centres such as Chadstone and Myer Bourke Street in Victoria, and Queen Victoria Building and Chatswood Chase in Sydney, will add EV charging stations at up to 30 of igts centres across the country.

Vicinity has partnered with French energy company Engie as part of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA) Future Fuels fund to deliver EV fast-charging stations into carparks across its national portfolio of over 60 shopping centres.

The new partnership, billed as a first of its kind in Australia, is expected to result in one of the most important electric vehicle charging infrastructure programs in Australia, leveraging Vicinity’s numerous shopping centres around the country to roll EV charging at up to 30 centres.

Looks like Surge is more going to be a brand for some associated services Engie are looking at.

Another article here.

Only 30 Vicinity centres - so about half the portfolio.
Commencing late 2021/early 2022 but up to two years.

Interesting the article states 120kW chargers.
Possibly suggests they will be using ABB products.

There was a thread about this on Reddit. The shopping centres whilst appreciated only make up about 30 or so compared to the thousands in Victoria alone. We need bigger players like Stockland (huge presence in Regional Victoria) to sign up and this will then really take off.

7 months since the Vicinity/ Engie announcement, and we are still yet to see a site, versus the stated "few months".

Hopefully one pops up soon.

On apps - in the UK they have a Genie point app, so could have similar here
(And also seems that Ampol will be using its own app AmpCharge)
