Enhanced autopilot features now FSD-only?

I really hope, for people who bought EAP for $5k, but not FSD so have to pay $5k for that, will be given a break in the form of a chance to upgrade to FSD for only $3k including the chip upgrade to HW3. Tesla would probably make more money by offering this option to this group than by not offering this option (if many people in this group are not going to pay $5k to upgrade to FSD).

This is BS with legacy EAP. Musk had been talking about traffic light recognition for months now. FSD has been gone for months as an order option.

So legacy EAP now won't do lights and signs? Plenty of highways have lights and signs. It's not just City streets

I wonder where rotaries/roundabouts fits in this? I'll probably pass on those. Automatic driving on secondary roads seems very doable, but FSD on city streets in say Boston, not something I would do in the near future. I'm pleased though with the potential for the initial FSD rollout in the next year.

NOA on AP on city streets doesn’t mention pothole detection so screw that.

They said a while back they need HW V3 to do sign and light detection.

Mobile Eye has been doing this for quite some time so I imagine Tesla had to find a way to do it without violating Mobile Eye’s patents.

TACC and breaking for other cars/pedestrians was available without EAP.
No, TACC has always been part of initially, Auto Pilot, and later Enhanced Auto Pilot.

As of today, TACC is part of Auto Pilot and also part of FSDC.

If you did not buy AP or EAP you did not get TACC, you got “regular” cruise control, which seems almost useless to me, it’s so primitive.

And AEB, Automatic Emergency Braking, (not “breaking”!) has always been standard on all Tesla’s since it was introduced a few years ago.

So what you are saying is that current EAP owners will stop getting updated? That's not what Elon previously said.
No, no one is saying that current EAP owners (I am one) will “stop getting updated”. EAP will continue to be improved over time, just as Tesla has always done, but after Advanced Summon is released there may not be any major changes in terms of big new features, just incremental improvements of existing features. And of course improvements and new features like Sentinel Mode, Dog Mode, etc., that don’t require new hardware.

EAP has always been for “restricted access” roads like freeways and some highways. Telsa has never said that EAP would be capable of handling “city streets” and roads with cross traffic.

According to the latest update on Tesla.com, EAP is now $3k and is basically autosteer only.
and TACC. And it is no longer called EAP, it is now called AP (Auto Pilot).

Wait, so things that previously came for free, are now part of the Autopilot package for $3000. The Enhanced Autopilot Package that was previously 5K, now is called Full Self Driving and costs $5000.
As of today, Auto Pilot is TACC and Auto Steer only. Those two features were never free.

People who previously bought Full Self Driving - what are they going to get?
They are going to get what Tesla now shows on the S/X/3 configuration page, which is this:

Full Self-Driving Capability
  • Navigate on Autopilot: automatic driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp including interchanges and overtaking slower cars.
  • Autopark: both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
  • Summon: your parked car will come find you anywhere in a parking lot. Really.
Coming later this year:
  • Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.
  • Automatic driving on city streets.

It’s interesting to see how Tesla has restructured the two options for “partial” and full self driving. For those of us who currently own EAP, we already have 3 features that are now only available if you purchase FSDC: Nav on Auto Pilot, Autopark, and Summon.

Of course, those of us who own an EAP car are not going to receive the two features that Tesla says will be released “later this year”, which are “Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs” and “Automatic driving on city streets”.

Personally, I’m quite happy with what my EAP cars have right now. I am hoping that I will not need a Tesla with FSDC for at least another 20 years. But at that point, I will definitely be trading in and getting a new Tesla with FSDC.

Endless clickbait and piecemeal. A real HW3 or its revision is what will making a real difference. If NoA is the future of FSD or stays with FSD, I'd rather not live in such future. :p

The way I understand it, it will work like this. If I find out new information, I will update this chart and post the updated version here.

Does anyone really want to be stuck with HW2.5/EAP on their Model 3?

Sure I get that Elon said NoA, Autopark, and Summons will work on HW2.5 for owners with EAP.

But, they are absolutely going to improve NoA, Autopark, and Summons with HW3.

I really hope Tesla comes back with an easy path for Model 3 owners to upgrade to FSD for $3K or $4K. Now I'm not saying this because I'm impacted by it. I'm not as I paid $3K for the FSD option when I got the car.

I just don't want to see people out in limbo land.

My account shows $3k to upgrade to FSD now. It went down from $5k but the checkout button is greyed out. Seems like anyone with EAP will have an option to upgrade to FSD at $3k within the next few days unless Elon changes his mind.

Too bad it's grey'd out.

I'd say to jump on it, but I guess you'll have to wait a few days.

$3K is the only fair price for it.
