The cost of printing is insignificant when compared to the peace of mind of thousands of dollars of stuff that's stored in the trunk that you know is now completely secure.

For the times where you MUST use the trunk of course and when the contents are more valuable than the risk and cost of rear window replacement.

Just got email from Tesla saying Sentry Mode is coming soon... and in the meantime, Tesla recommended same as other users on the thread:
"for owners looking to prevent theft, we also recommend removing valuables from your car and leaving the rear seats folded down with the trunk empty when parked."

"When a potential threat is detected, the cameras on your car will begin recording, and the alarm system will activate." that's great that the alarm will activate when the cameras will begin recording. but what actions will trigger it is the question.
Ah. Email just arrived here ten minutes ago as well. So no extra hardware needed for the 3. This will be interesting. It at least shows that they're officially aware of the issue.

By themselves, activation of the cameras and some as yet unspecified actions that will trigger the alarm may not prevent smash-and-grabs right away, but hopefully word will soon get around the leagues of thieves that Model 3s are now more trouble than they are worth and move on to easier targets. Their modus operandi is to get in and out quickly without drawing attention on themselves, especially when doing serial break-ins in a parking lot. Meanwhile, keeping the trunk empty and seats folded is likely the best deterrent, as has been recommended by many here and now by Tesla itself.

The last sentence in the article is the most valuable one.

With few consequences these kids would rather ride around doing B&Es than get a real job. Why the hell would someone with crap morals want to show up and punch a clock and work for eight hours when they can ride around listening to music stealing people's laptops, purses and luggage?

Right on target! In California there are no consequences if you are a car thief... just another non-violent offender needing some help

Sentry Mode - yayy yayy yayyy
Tesla launches new Sentry Mode to ‘protect against break-ins and theft’

"The field of view is limited to Autopilot’s narrow forward facing camera.
After the release of the feature, CEO Elon Musk said that future versions will use more Autopilot cameras and have a parking mode."

Not sure I understand this post.

Your description of using only 1 camera with more later is not sentry mode- it's of the original dashcam feature added months ago.... and that has been updated to use the side cameras as well now (as does Sentry mode)
