According to this piece, the output from this factory is only meant for one supplier. Elsewhere I read it was for Daimler.
That may be the case today, but no sensible company would avoid adding new customers
Unless they're being paid for exclusivity.
That's possible, but exclusive contracts never last very long in the manufacturing industry, a few years at most. They're a good way to finance a new project, but impede growth of the supplier's business.
Remember the Ovonics NiMH/Cobasys debacle?
Yes. I wouldn't call that "sensible"
