EVs in the 2012 Presidential Debates

We had pizza too, and my wife says it was crazy at the pizza place picking it up, somewhat like the Super Bowl.

That being said, I watched about 25 minutes and then went to work - crash deadlines I'm working through - but I can't stand political banter and speculation from the right or the left. It's interesting to me, that the left will say Romney out and out lied, to the point it was immoral. And then the right will essentially say the exact same thing about Obama and call him the Anti-Christ. Funny how your ideological bent will color your objectiveness and who's statistician and what news channel you wont listen to... so much so that you can't see the merits of *any* view points from the opposing side. Extremism is bad.

Bush era created the (non tarp) loan that aided Tesla in startup, while Obama instituted the rebates on EV for consumers to buy. Both aided Tesla, but from two different funding angles and from two different (and needed) *timing* points in the life of Tesla.

Ultimately - I HATE - politics in these forums. It's divisive, and can turn an online friend into one shunned instead. It's also very bad for Tesla, driving away those of opposing views. Tesla needs us all.

I just looked up the statistics from the debate, and it surprised me to find that Obama talked for a total of four minutes longer than Romney. I wouldn't have guessed that from watching the debate because it did seem like Jim Lehrer tried unsuccessfully to stop Romney more than he did Obama. Maybe it was Lehrer that should have been disqualified because he gave the President unfair leaway versus Romney. Bottom line: they both really stretched the time limits.

Don't be surprised -- even though Obama had 4 more minutes of speaking time than Romney, he got out almost 1000 words less than Romney, so much of his time was slow speaking and vocalized pauses.

Could Tesla file a lawsuit against Romney for saying that?

No, not a chance.

I thought this was a great take on Romney's mention of Tesla, and good to see others on his case about lumping TM in with companies not doing as well. I love the last line, that basically Romney's rooting against an American car company succeeding to score political points. Ouch!

This thread's title clearly flags it as political, and its in the Off Topic area; hopefully, anyone who prefers to avoid political discussions will realize this is one they should simply avoid.

Yeah I get that... and really in some ways it's actually on topic, since Tesla's name was specifically brought up in the debate (rather than hearsay). I still don't like politics (in forums) though, but I'm done venting now. ;)

I will vote - as I am an American and chose to do so. I will also say that we are living in a socialist political environment right now, we just don't use that moniker or admit to ourselves that we do. I was born in the 60s and got to grow up in a pure democracy. I feel blessed for that. Now, the appearance of debates and even voting are simply a mini-sham, as the majority of voters get some type of government subsidy and they will be darned if they are not going to continue to vote themselves money from the treasury. The average Joe doing the right thing for the country has given way to the country doing the right thing for all us Joe's, and it is, unfortunately manifesting itself in the form of socialism.

Doing the right thing for all Joes is pretty much the point of civilization. We band together in social groups for the greater good. If it were to our detriment to live in social groups, we'd all live as hermits.

Given we choose to band together it's inherently socialism, doing right for the group, the only debate is the fuzzy line of how socialist do you want to be.

Apparently Mitt is still saying this on the stump.

Fox picked it up

...Fisker Spokesperson Roger Ormisher told GreenCarReports.com

that “we don’t consider ourselves a loser, having sold 1,500 cars already and raised over $1.2 billion of private equity." The California-based company has sold about 1,500 of its $109,000 Karma luxury sedans this year....

Tesla has stayed out of the debate so far and has not commented on Romney’s statement.
